I think what makes it for me was Rengoku didn't spend his last moment mourning his own death. He used it to guide Tanjiro and instill the fighting spirit in the 3 boys. Died the way he lived with the fiery passion of flame.

If you were to read a book with the plot of demon slayer versus a book with the plot of something like HunterxHunter, you would be way more interested in the plot of the latter most likely. Demon slayer is super generic. Picture a zombie plot in which a boy and his sister are some of the only survivors of a zombie attack on his hometown, and yet the boy is a genius. He invents technology to end the infection with several other people, narrowly avoiding zombie attacks along the way. Basically demon slayer. Also make the sister a zombie.
