Luffy's battle iq is amazing. Back at Enies Lobby he was the defeated by Cp9's shave, and learned from that to develop 2nd gear. Then developed 3rd gear from the giants he met at Little Garden, 4th gear was from all the different animals he fought over the time skip, his observation haki improved to future sight after his battle with Katakuri, and now he learned Conquerors haki coating by applying what he learned from ryou and saw from Kaido

This was overdone and out of place lol. Literally the amount of time the anime spends on irrelevant stuff makes it extremely disappointing. I know we haven’t seen Gear 5 yet but this episode just gave me chills. And this is why Luffy is a Yonko and Law and Kid are not. They haven’t yet pulled off a stunt like this. Law can’t believe what Luffy has been able to do. Yes Law and Kid did good to take down Big Mom but Luffy’s mastery of Haki is one reason why he is considered a Yonko and they aren’t post Wano. I also like how they showed Luffy’s past defeats against Aokiji and Magellan, really makes this scene more emotional. Luffy has struggled and trained so hard to get to this point! So proud of him!

@@G4KW I definitely agree that law has the power of a yonkou. Law awakening was one of the most impressive things shown in the series. Law has also not fully mastered his awakening. He gets extremely tired after using it and it's difficult for him to land the hit. I think he will get stronger and better at using his awakening. Kid on the other had I have not been impressed with. His use of devil fruit is very lack luster. His performance on the roof was poor. Even when he faced big mom with law , law did the bulk of damage.

I finally get after rewatching it , the flower blossoming makes sense. His first few attacks he's glowing golden because of all the unused Conqueror's Haki and then he channels it in the final attack through. They are just giving things random shapes and putting different filters on top, the actual "movement" of things is mediocrely animated and almost certainly even easier this way than if things would have to be drawn cleanly. (Plus, they use easier CGI models whenever convenient.) It's not "advanced" animation, it's just unrestrained, which is supposed to be seen as modern (just by accident of being in the present).

Luffy is more self taught than Law, Zoro, Sanji & Koby etc. Law was taught martial arts by Lao G, Swordsmanship by Diamante, and Marksmanship(shooting) by Trebol. Luffy was only taught haki by Rayleigh and Hyogoro. Luffy was thrown into the jungle and told to survive by Garp. Luffy was not taught any martial arts. Luffy has no fighting style and does no use an external weapon. Luffy only has his devil fruit which he had to become Yonko level BEFORE he Awakened his Devil fruit. In its non Awakened state it is mostly useless. Kid is the only other person like Luffy

If you slow down the first time Luffy blocks Kaido's attack with a kick, 8 times a flash of bright white and black flashes on the screen for 2 frames each time. So 8 different times there's a .08 second flash of white and black outline of their faces or figure. It definitely made it seizure inducing with the sudden flashes of bright lights, way too hard to watch on a computer monitor without having to sit 10 feet away.

They went crazy on this one. But Brago constantly asking why was it gold makes me notice something. All this over the top animations are great and all, but it could potentially create inconsistencies down the line. Like they add all these special effects for attacks and impacts right?, Are those really how it supposed to look?, Are those attacks supposed to be that big?, or is it just the studio exaggerating them? Don't get me wrong, they're clean af, I love em, but I prefer accurate depictions over exaggerated effects, because it's better for long term storytelling. Cuz it wouldn't be funny if someday we got a final battle of the series, and the amount of special effects feels less or just the same as we got in the anime right now.

And here, we have a buzzkill in it's natural habitat.... it's adaptations to it's environment allow it to nitpick so great that it annoys people enough to keep them away from itself... truly remarkable. Here we have another great example of the rare "party-killer" species being unappreciative of the immense effort put into the newest One Piece episode, acting like they know enough about animation to be able to unjustly criticize an otherwise greatly received episode. @@doug2555 nah i completely agree with the comment. The animation completely ruined the moment for me. They should’ve made it like roger and wb’s clash, what they did now is a complete over kill. Instead of showing details they just covered everything with golden aura and just threw in some rose golden rose blooms. This is not dragon ball, i dont want to see goku vs jiren i want roger vs wb animation. Plus they song was very chaotic and ruined the moment. I understand that they put in the effort, however the aura feels lazy. They really need to learn that sometimes “less is more”. (My opinion) :p

@@majedmalki9955 I agree that some of the stuff like the flower petals is just overkill and the auras are a little over the top. But Roger and Whitebeard clash was just a showcase of how powerful they were, it didn't need to be anything besides an intense clash. This however, is a major powerup for Luffy. It's going to be what makes him actually be able to compete with Kaido. He even said "only a handful of people can use it". This is a huge moment for Luffy and I'm glad they made it super flashy and obvious that he leveled up.

I'd just like the actual fight impacts to have been the most focus not so much all these colours. Still prefer how things went in fights like Croc, Lucci, Doffy

As outstanding as this episodes animation was I still felt some scene didn’t have good oomf or impact and didn’t seam together so well. For example luffy going from a clash with kiados club to just them hitting him in the stomach and the impact took a while. Then while he was flying it kept cutting to shots of his face screaming but then just shots of him standing in the air seemingly not moving. I think it’s because they had soo many different animators on these few scenes and not enough communication.

And then it goes back to normal as it becomes an ordinary powerup/move. So, be glad they overdid this one and not the upcoming clashes.

It's all subjective nitpicking. Conquerors haki clashes have always been animated as basic attacks propped up by heavy effects work.

But usually its done with taste and consistent with the power up. They absolutely ENHANCED gear 2nd and snake man, absllutely. But this? It takes it all away and reduces it to cringe bullcrap where you can't see shit what is even happening. The manga power up was beautiful, because of its simplicity and rawness. There was no shiny new form, no flashy stuff, nothing. Just Luffy in his base beating up Kaido with RAWNESS. The panels of Luffy punching Kaido with ACoC are still one of the most raw and powerful panels in the series for this reason.

Suddenly Zoro Has purple aura, glowing red eye, and begins flying like Goku with supersonic speed for what feels like miles. Oh, and don't forget to add bright multi-color background and petals flying to every attack so that no one can see anything

I don't get some people say that the animation is bad because they overdo it. From what I can see, they really portray how powerful they are fighting with conquerer's haki. Though it's still amazing, I don't think Oda can't portray that kind of power in the manga panels so I think Toei really did a a good job. "But Roger and Whitebeard's fight ain't animated like that they fought with conquerer's haki too." It's because they're mearly saying hello. Luffy and Kaido are fighting to the death so it's more over the top. This episode elevated the manga to me and kudos to Toei for their job well done.

Not only did they split the chapter into 2 episodes, they riddled both with terrible pacing and overanimated Luffy's conqueror haki moment. Also I think they messed up on Luffy’s first punch, one moment he’s clashing with Kaido’s club, the next moment Luffy is still in the same position with his punch now on Kaido’s body.

This weeks OP episode has single handedly put me off of looking forward to anymore adapted action scenes in the future, I am very sure now that they just cannot recreate the hype that the chapters provide.
