I sure prefer this kind of filler episodes every now and then instead of the Toei pacing practices to adapt less than 1 manga chapter into 1 anime chapter (reaction shots, excesive flashbacks, repeat of the same scenes, etc.). They could animate one of the many cover stories and IMO it would be incredible. Sadly they did tried to do this once with Buggy' and Koby's cover stories.. The ratings from the Japanese viewers where so low because Luffy wasn't on it that Toei didn't attempted to repeat doing them again. A big shame.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beckman has Conqueror's Haki. Rayleigh, Zoro, Ace, and Katakuri all have/had it so I don't see any reason why the second in command of the Red Hair pirates wouldn't have it as well. If anything I was more surprised that King didn't have it as well since it seems like a trend for powerful commanders to be using it alongside their captains.

Oda almost always oversees scripts, (at least for films but we have toa ssume its the same for episodes like these, revealing information). Nothing in these episodes happens without his say so. He creates all the filler devil fruits. he creates the film's filler character backstories (which is possible everything here was just extra and couldnt fit into the film). Its really up to you whether its canon or not. Because Oda has his hand in almost everything One piece related and not just the manga, i like to say that it is canon. If it fits, its canon. and so far these episodes have made sense. the plot in stampede? Makes no sense to fit in the timeline, so its not canon. But shit like this? Almost certainly is made to give context for the canon. Long winded, but short answer - if you like it, consider it canon.

i always knew/had a feeling that benn beckman would be a conqueror's user with the trends between the roger pirates, red hair pirates and straw hats. all the vice captains are/will be relative in power to the captain and zoro and rayleigh were confirmed to have conqueror's so why not benn. roger, shanks and luffy are similar and so are rayleigh, beckman and zoro. can't wait to see the movie, and i can't wait for shanks and luffy to duel it out one day. i don't think "evil shanks" will happen. yasopp and usopp need to have a talk and i think benn beckman and zoro will get along well. maybe the movie changes my mind though.
