What is "wrong" with that Jon Aba, Redd Foxx had been around the block for decades, if he didn't save his money or pay his taxes, why should Demond Wison come to his rescue, that's the one agency you don't play with the IRS. Redd Foxx helped older actors get work on his show, I'll give him that, but help pay his IRS bills because he tried to be slick. That's ridiculous !!

Here’s my Redd Foxx story. Shortly after he left Sanford, I was at a jazz club in Los Angeles, the Parisian room. The great Milt Jackson was performing that night, as I’m pulling into the parking lot, I immediately recognized Redd. Now just Imagine this hugh television star, driving a banged up limousine that was in disrepair with a couple of guys outside of the vehicle, and they were snorting coke. I wanted to be excited at seeing a celebrity, but I wasn’t able to because it was obvious that he was going through some difficult times. I was sad for him.

Demond took a lot of guts to be totally honest... So, lets respect that... He never said he loved him... He didn't dislike Red...But, he basically was saying Red was just somebody he worked with... That's probably a big reason it was pretty easy for him to take a step back, and be smart, and not just give money to a guy who just throws money out the window... But, I'm sure if that was his actual father, that wouldn't have been so easy...

I lived thru this. Redd, on camera told the tv executives just how he felt about what he was receiving in the way of salary and he felt insulted when they gave him a case of alcohol (brandy or something similar). He read them the riot act, during prime time and refused to re-up his contract. Those are the episodes when Grady stepped in. The ratings were high and he deserved his share. Sometime between season 3 and early 4 they worked things out and he returned to the show. He later got into tax trouble with the IRS and Frank Sinatra bailed him out. Before long he was in the same trouble, old habits die hard. When the IRS came this time they took everything! Jewelry, awards, furniture, house,etc! Asian wife left him. He was ALL OVER TV begging for help. Calling out folks like Eddie Murphy, saying, “You have millions, you can’t help me!” He called out a few other folks, somehow Eddie’s stand out, because by this time I no longer felt sorry for him, I was thinking, didn’t Frank just bai you out. I thought, what makes you think they are responsible for you. Everyone has their struggles. Anyway, Eddie helped him by creating a sitcom for him and Della Reese and putting them in Harlem Nights. I watch SS every night, never miss a show! My dad was the spitting image of him, attitude, behavior, his speech, mannerisms, you name it. I knew of Redd Foxx thru Malcom X, when he was a dish washer at Smalls Paradise in Harlem. He was a product of his socialization and didn’t grow beyond that, not even from his mistakes.

Shout out to the young man interviewing Mr. Wilson! While I understand Mr. Wilson's perspective, the young man out of respect, and a sense of professionalism, held his own against an older, bombastic individual. That takes a special person not to lose their cool under pressure, especially while this interview is being recorded for posterity. Mr. Wilson spoke of some things as far as preparedness that should be heeded by this young man for upcoming interviews, yet other than that, I personally wanted to acknowledge his ability to keep the interview from being contentious, and keeping it on track. Thanks for sharing this special moment.

@@dampergoldenrod4156 In this interview, (not in reference to his acting career) Demond Wilson was Bombastic. Yet the interviewer kept his cool. This was my point. My father was exactly like this. He surrounded himself with people that would tell him what he wanted to hear and not what he needed to hear. If you told him what he needed to hear, you would get a tongue lashing. Didn't like when people told him what to do and the consequences of what will happen if he didn't change course. You can talk until you are blue in the face and they still wouldn't listen. They'll just laugh at you when you are at the point of frustration and exhaustion. My father always learned things the hard way and never learned from his mistakes. Now, he lives alone and is in bad health. His so called friends wouldn't lift a finger to help him. When you make your bed, you have to lie in it. Yes, life is about choices, and sometimes we make bad choices. Why? They were co-workers, not family. Red was a grown man much older than Demond. He knew what he was doing. Back then, it is not like Demond was making millions. I am sure he had responsibilities of his own.

@Mike-cq5ex For sure he speaks with wisdom but it makes him seem very cold and uncaring about a man he spent so much time with. Also he is delusional if he thinks Redd did not help him. Redd was the show, no one knew Demond or cared about him back then-he was the dummy, the straight man. That show never gets off the ground and certainly doesn't become the hit iconic show it became without Redd Foxx. So maybe he should speak of the man with a little more respect.
@Mike-cq5ex

@@langlang420 Like The Staple Singers song goes, if you don't respect yourself "ain't nobody gonna give a good cahoot." Demond Wilson was looking out for himself and had a backup plan up if he didn't get his way. Like he said all the vultures and hanger-oner's, and so-called friends deserts you when you fall on hard times. I don't think he was being disrespectful, he was just being for real.

Some of you need to accept the hard truth that yes, Redd was an older man, but he wasn’t a wise or responsible person. There is a lot of history about his behavior outside of the show-cocaine and alcohol addictions, orgy parties, physical abuse against women, casting couch culture and other acts that don’t match to his Fred Sanford lovable grumpy character. I was shocked to learn that Redd and those older men that appeared on the show, were at mansion parties and in the show trailers, living it up like there was no tomorrow. I would be ashamed to see 40-60 year old men snorting and smoking cocaine, and walking around naked with groupies and drug dealers. I can see why Demond was and still is so disgusted. You would think that the younger cast members like Demond would have been wilding out in the 1970s, but he wasn’t. If you notice some of the S&S episodes, Redd would often look to the side of the shot at cue cards, mainly because he was high and loaded, and not because he was old. You can also see Demond and other actors even helping him along at times. Redd lived his life recklessly. He was not Fred Sanford.

Can we acknowledge all the things he did & help other comedians Eddie Murphy etc get on. Redd didn’t have crab in bucket mentality but he help everyone until he couldn’t help himself. I heard the story that Redd owed money to the IRS and he asked his friends for help. He got Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and others to do a show to pay off his debt. Then the next year he owed again and he asked them to do a show for him again and they said in effect no, he needed to take care of it himself.
