There's a host on Fox News (Bret Baier) who does a lot of big interviews. He follows your suggestion #1, but other than that he doesn't listen good at all. Just goes down his list of pre-formulated questions no matter what the person has just said. So many times a person says something that just begs for a follow up, or a simple "What do you mean by that?" but it all just slides by, the opportunity lost forever. Worst thing is, bad interviewers don't seem to know they're bad!

I’ve interviewed a number of celebrities during my time as a reporter, including legends such as Harry Belafonte, Smokey Robinson, Robert Wagner, Dick Gregory, et al. I knew exactly what Demond meant when he said Redd showed his entire arsenal and not in a good way. I thought he las going to say he showed his entire you know what. But I got what he was trying to convey. I wonder if the interviewer read Demond’s book? I didn’t see the entire interview so he may have indicated that he had read it. As a kid in the 70’s, Sanford & Son was the most understandable and relatable sitcom for a kid to watch. Simple characters and stories but a complex power dynamic.

He's simply ed-u-cat-ed. He's not a phony, low class person pretending to be educated, due to having a degree, but someone who understands what being an educated, wise human being really looks like and how we carry ourselves in our every day lives. That's what he is and, unfortunately, we don't see many people like him, today, because MOST are, simply, followers who go along to get along. They do not have class, at all, are, in fact, low class, couldn't speak well if their lives depended upon it and no matter how much money 🤑💰 they earn, will ALWAYS be proud to sound as d-u-m-b as if they'd never learned, developed skills or grown to do better and live better. No, ig-norance is what MOST celebrate 🥳🥂 🎊 which is why so many of the children are doomed! It is what it is. 🤦🏾♀️

I love how he tells the truth but clearly refuses to give damaging details. I always felt like Red Foxx got a bad personality at birth, but he made a life for himself because he really was charming and funny. When he wanted to be. I love him still.

Man y'all youngsters better start paying attention, listening and remembering things man when in the presence of a brother like this. This man is truth and wisdom in the flesh. I learned everything from men just like Desmond Wilson growing up. I'm 46 now and I tell everyone I was so blessed to be SURROUNDED by brothers like this my entire childhood into my early teens and still to this day. They are true leaders man. No nonsense Nelly Fuller Jr like minded. All business. Your view on life changes when you are around strong brothers. They pass the torch forreal.

Coming from a family of entertainers I can honestly say I know exactly how he feels. No matter how much money is offered to some folks, they find a way to let themselves get in between what’s being offered because they think someone else who doesn’t have the bigger name is gonna make more than them. They always have their talent to fall back on until all the bridges are burned and all those so called friends are gone.

'Sanford and Son' was a show my dad and I both liked. Out of curiosity I discovered that he had comedy records and some material from his club comedy that was pretty explicit. I guess this is the 'entire arsenal' that Desmond referred to. I also remembered watching 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' at the drive in when I was a kid but had forgotten I'd already seen him before Sanford and Son. I was surprised later to hear that Redd had financial struggles later on. Crazy how life is sometimes. I always liked Grady's expression from that show. 'Good gobble-dee goop Fred!' I don't know why but it tickled me. Now and then when somebody told me some crazy story I'd reply 'Well! Good gobble-dee goop'.

Every since Sanford and Son ended, Demond Wilson seems to have been shading Red Foxx in interviews. I never thought the feeling was mutual.
@tomhadley704811 ай бұрын
I agree. Mr. Wilson does seem to throw a shaded at Redd Fox. Also seems to talk as though he was as big as Redd Fox. I heard him say in an interview years ago that Sanford and son did not make him a star he was already a star before Sanford and son.

Redd has given me and my family decades of laughter. We moved down to Florida to have my mom who was in her 90s move in with us. Many nights the 3 of us sat watching Redd and Demond in Sanford and Son reruns. What wonderful memories I have of looking over at my mom in her chair as she watched Redd and laughed. She passed away in her room here in 2018, but I will always remember those nights watching her favorite 3 shows, The Waltons, Golden Girls, and Sanford and Son. Then she would gracefully retire to her room and tv, thoughtfully giving my wife and I some alone time. Demond straight man role for Redd's jokes, were done perfectly, and it ain't easy. Thank you Redd and Demond. I bet Redd is doing standup in heaven atthe Boom Boom room(G--rated)..

Clearly, this interviewer needs to sharpen skills. Demond is succinct, he’s not going to draw the guy a picture when in fact, if you are listening, he puts together the story in a cohesive manner to a conclusion. At one point in these interviews I thought he’d say “what the hell is wrong with you, didn’t you hear what I just said”? I don’t know where the full interview is, but I have some questions I would definitely asked. Everybody has to start somewhere I suppose. I enjoyed listening.

The reality is this... I used to do interviews. No problems with the interviewer some people are simply harder to interview because of their behavior. Dont blame the interviewer for Demonds behavior. I hate when people act like the interviewer didnt do enough. Some people are just hard to interview because of their attitude no matter what their "status" is. Talking to someone isnt based on what they did or didnt do. Theres a certain behavior and respect you should have as an interviewee too.
@NubianStarr11 ай бұрын
Thank you for saying this... You are 100% spot on. This man is just difficult no matter who is interviewing him. He has been like this with older interviewers as well. People are just sheep and will believe anything nowadays... The interviewer did not ask any questions that another person wouldn't have asked. The thing is he went out of his way to make the guy look incompetent & embarrass him. But in my opinion he made himself look bad. Mr. Wilson just loves to be confrontational in his interviews, period! But yet this is suppose to be a... "Man of God" ...Yeah ok😒

Demond is Old School, like he says. That means paying your dues, doing the work, no short cuts. It also means preparing for the interview and not emphasizing why he didn’t help Redd Fox, who clearly kept shooting himself in the foot with bad judgment.

I've watched five or six episodes of this exchange and all I can say is that there is an enormous chasm between the young and their elders that shows that there is, and decadely recent, was, very miniscule inheritance of what hard and life risking work of ancestors from the 70s and centuries before had ground broken. This generation is buried.

As black man in his late 50s and grew up watching the Sandford & Son show, I always hated how Lamont was so cantankerous, he always seemed angry and agitated to the point of disrespect at Fred, his father on the show… I felt this Mainly because that wasn’t a thing we did in our culture, especially at that time… I always thought it was Hollywood continuing its efforts to damage & destroy the image of the black father or any black male authority figure, and I’m sure that was part of it…. But after watching this interview, I now know Demond was just playing his true self.. 😂 I thought the young man handled this interview very well considering the interviewee.😂

I really don't understand why people don't get in touch with actual family members of Redd Fox. FYI I'm one of those family members of Redd fox.
@edg45611 ай бұрын
The short answer is that podcasters like this seek out people who will generate views. If you or anyone else in Redd's family want to share his story from your perspective (which I'm sure there would be plenty of interest if done right), consider self-publishing a book about him, starting your own podcast, or doing a documentary about him. Next, get a publicist if you don't already have one and reach out to outlets that might be interested in letting you come on to tell your side of the story. Don't wait for media outlets or podcasters to come find you; be proactive by contacting them and make your pitch. Good luck!
