Funnily enough, I'm a female, and my mom called my boyfriend that for years. It was infuriating for both of us, but she's from another generation, etc. And finally we were at my stepdad's funeral, and she introduced him again as my friend. Then my former step-sister-in-law chimes in with "Uh, ____? I think they're more than just friends!!!!" Everyone laughed a lot, and the term boyfriend was finally adopted. Although it didn't last long, because we were engaged like 2 weeks after the funeral.

am i the only one who thinks mitch is in the wrong here ? i dont know i have always seen Jay's stance on mitch and cam as most appropriate and accepting and loving but mitch keeps bringing up small things which he too should be accepting of .

He's looking for trouble,maybe in the past jay neglected mitch for being gay and he was definitely in the wrong when he said he was uncomfortable with their wedding but i agree mitch bitches too much about details

​​@@tobiasarevalo9929 in this particular scene he wasn't tho . Jay had no business calling Cam a friend of his son. It shows that he still feels ashamed of his sons sexuality, and as a middle aged man with a daughter , he doesn't have to put up with anymore.

In general I agree, I think Mitch his way too many childhood hang ups still, but this time jay was actually out of line. That was disrespectful to both Mitchell and Cameron and honestly it was an insult to their daughter as well. They aren't friends, they are partners who have fought hard to be together and start a family and jays statement cast all of that aside.

Jay was being homophobic, it is made very clear in the show that Jay was not appropriate or accepting of Mitch and Cam and was very homophobic to them throughout the show right up until the middle to late seasons where he became a bit better (He still made micro-aggressions against them though). Mitch is well within his rights to bring up the 'small things' because they aren't small things, they're homophobic things that disrespect his husband and his identity.
