They are cool. I love mines. If you want more details about a photo after it gives what it is just say I want more details and it will go into full on description. I don't know what I took a picture of the other day but it went into massive details about the image after I said that request and I was pleasantly surprised. As a person who is blind and lives independently, these are very handy for things around the house when I want to be hands-free.

If you want something to be read out loud, (from start to finish), you have to say, look and read out loud, followed by what you are wanting to say. Just a tip, in case you didn’t know that. I love my meta glasses as well.

Yes, they are incredibly helpful, but they do have limitations... I've tried many different prompts and it's honestly a hit or miss for me. Sometimes, I'll get really great descriptions, and sometimes its super general and even if I ask for more details, it doesn't always do it.
@carrieonaccessibility2 ай бұрын
I find that this sometimes works and sometimes does not. For documents like letters, it is usually more helpful and will usually read more, but when trying to read longer things like magazines, books, and textbooks, it struggles.

Great job on this demo, Carrie. I think the absence of personal descriptions might be part of Meta's anti-bullying algorithm. It sounds like you have to ask questions in just the right way to get the info you want beyond a very general description. But they seem somewhat helpful if all you need to do is identify an item or have a label read or calling a service like Aira.
@carrieonaccessibility2 ай бұрын
Yes, it can really be very helpful, but the amount of prompt engineering you have to do for specific information or for more detailed information is can be really a challenge.

@@carrieonaccessibilityI’m in the UK and my glasses are arriving on Thursday. I’m looking forward to being hands free when out walking instead of fumbling for my phone to read street names. I use a walking stick alongside my long white cane so I have to juggle. AI is still hit and miss but improving compared to when I first started to use Seeing AI when accuracy seemed like a 50/50 coin toss now it’s getting close to 80/20 on Seeing AI and other apps. I’ve just learned it records in 60 second bursts so it probably won’t be as good as I hoped for recording as I walk or sew but it will still give me useful options

13:00 It appears that these glasses do not have autofocus or the lenses are factory adjusted to be focused around 1-2 meters. As a result, it cannot read any small text which seems like a huge mistake if you wanted to use the glasses to help reading small text. That said, it seems that the biggest limitation is hardcoded limits for the AI. Especially any question where AI interpreted the question as "can you describe any visible humans" it immediately went to "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." mode.
@carrieonaccessibility2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how but usually if I hold it close enough, Aira agents and Meta AI can usually make text out. I can't really tell by the footage because details like that are too hard for me to see. And yes, the AI limitations are very frustrating... a lot of the time you have to do prompt engineering.
@MikkoRantalainen2 ай бұрын
@@carrieonaccessibility With the current state of AI, you have to do prompt engineering to achieve best results regardless of the task. I write software for living and have played with multiple AI systems and none achieve max performance without heavy prompt engineering.

I enjoyed your review. I don’t think I’ll be getting any because I wouldn’t use it enough to justify the price. I don’t even wear sunglasses most of the time.

do you have to have what's app installed to set up the glasses? I thought I heard the Aira agent talking about using What's App.

Yes, you have to have whatsapp and connect it on the Meta View app. That's a one time set up and then Aira agents can send the links where all you have to do is press join.
@fuzziestlumpkin2 ай бұрын
Just to clarify, you may need it for Aira, but the only account you need to set up the glasses themselves is a Meta one. You don't have to link it to any of your other accounts, even those owned by Meta.

I feel like a good use case would be to read your mail and stuff but knowing how meta’s privacy policies are I wouldn’t trust them with the images that the glasses capture. These are great if they weren’t made by Meta. But for general use like for seen descriptions these seem to be good. I could see myself using these at the airport trying to find my gate or while out in a community trying to find a bus stop or something.
@carrieonaccessibility2 ай бұрын
This is fair and honestly one of my concerns, but it has really proved its usefulness to me.

I tried using them to read cooking directions on packages. I thought it was doing a great job but when I had my sighted husband double check it turned out that NONE of the directions were correct! Meta would randomly omit steps or ingredients and would make up information that was nowhere on the package! They are a fun gimmick but NOT dependable in any way so they have very little practical use.
@carrieonaccessibility10 күн бұрын
That's super interesting. I did try with some cooking directions as well. It actually got it pretty accurately, especially the temperature and cooking time. It could really depend on the item. I think it also really depends on the prompt. I noticed if i asked more general questions, it gave more hallucination answers, but when I asked more specifics, it usually did a lot better.
@stuartduncan277221 күн бұрын
The hardware is very nice. The AI is terrible in the UK because it is restricted by EU privacy laws. This means that the most desirable feature for blind and low vision people e.g. Look and describe, does not work. I can only give the most basic commands Meta AI so the value of having smart glasses is lost. I received my glasses two days ago but they will be going back after Christmas.
@carrieonaccessibility10 күн бұрын
Yes, I did hear about that. That's really unfortunate. That's so frustrating and I'm sorry about that. I hope they can fix it so that in UK people can have something similar.
