Just the fact this doesn't have to use the typical peg in hole locking mechanism is a wonderful thing so the damn socks don't ride up and end up choking off your leg at the amputation end.

i wear this system as a left transfemoral amp and i make these double wall systems, they are great, if youre an above knee amp you usually always have lateral distal pressure, what is great about a double wall system is that it equallizes pressure in the residual limb, and essentially takes much pressure of the distal end of your stump, thus stabilizing bone movement within the socket containment. the more your femur moves within the socket, the less control you have of the prosthesis. iget even more control with my system being modified sabolich which channels the residual mucsles, almost like tri plantar control sense. but anyway since being in this system i have more endurance my walking habits improved, and best of all reduced my phantom pain and pressure blisters, sometimes scists. and to answer youre question, the system is able to stablize under vacuum with sock fit because the gel liner taped around his inner half shell seals air tight around the silicone liner he is already wearing when this video starts, the socks are sealed within this as well, the socks aid in providing the wicking of sucking out the residual air in the sealed system before he hits the button on his pump, with out the socks this system wouldnt work, a true fit with this system means you would use a nylon for wicking, lol. but this is a great system, and this clinic did an awesome job fabricating this leg. as a technician myself i can appreciate the craftsmanship here. beautiful carbon frame, they outlined the cutouts with leather to protect his inner shell and liner, and the coolest part is the locking mechanism, like off a snowboard binding, lol, great idea, im going to use that sometime, right now i use a locking push pin design to lock my frame and inner shell together, both are effective ways and very cool addition the the asthetics, makes for one helluva lamination job... good shit yo!

So would a design like this work for bka amps? It seems to require a great deal of pressure but as you likely know a person with high body mass requires a much sturdier limb, which adds weight especially on the back end of the gait when the leg is lifted to move into the next step and the limb is essentially hanging on by its own method whether locking pin or in this case vacuum.

I have a cousin that is an above the knee amputee and he says it hurts him so bad to try and use a prosthetic that he never wears what he has. He is on Medicare. How would he go about being able to get a better leg? The one he has is as basic as it could possibly be!

I am English and will very soon be having an above knee amputation. the department that deal with prosthesis said that they provide a full range of legs from a table leg to a computer driven one . I asked about the suction ones as they are on here a lot . they said that although they provide them they said they have limited success with them and they have a lot of issues with sweat and other issues . could anyone please give me some advice . i have no knowledge of any of this . msny thanks . I have an ottoboc wheelchair and its first class . if the legs are ad good then no issues at all Im sure !

Good day David, The above video is a patient who uses a double walled vacuum prosthesis. We do not typically fit these types of socket systems. However, this patient has a very long residual limbs due to traumatic injury. For new amputees we have found patients enjoy having a silicone suction liner with a seal from Ossur and accommodates limb fluctuation. If you have more questions feel free to email us at prostheticsinmotion@gmail.com. Thank you.
