"But Josh, it's not like you my REAL brother" - I thought this was really cute watching as a young teen but... I just can't unseen it now xD
@mirielvi2 жыл бұрын
Cher and Josh aren’t step siblings, they were but their parents relationship didn’t last and Cher’s dad basically took Josh under his wing bc he liked him. So that makes it less weird but for me it’s the age gap, I love how their characters bounce off of each other but the age gape makes it a little weird. Anyways you guys should definitely do Little Women (2019) or Crazy Rich Asians!
@henninggirl2612 жыл бұрын
They were step-siblings for about a year when Cher was 10 and Josh was 12. They didn't really see each other since then, but Mel kept in touch. It's in the novelization. Because this is based on Emma, it takes from her relationship with Mr. Knightly, whose brother married Emma's sister, I believe. So it's related but not.

Josh was 18 just a freshman in college and Cher was 16. Sure, the 2-year gap is not a big deal but he already had college experience while she still had 2 years of high school but it wasn't that eregenous.

An inventive Jane Austen Adaptation that subverts yet pays a cute homage to the original? Yes!

Jane Austen herself said that Emma was a character nobody would like except for herself, so I am never surprised when people say they don't like Emma or Cher. I have to say, I am on the camp that loves, loves, loves Emma. On a time when heroines were pictures of perfection, Emma came to teach us that not all girls have to be likeable. She is a boss.
@grasshopperye35939 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying, and I get not liking Emma, she's a bit obnoxious in the books, and in most adaptations. But Cher?? I honestly think she's among the most lovable protagonists to exist. She's not perfect, a bit spoiled, but she's sincere, genuinely kind-hearted, clever, and actually is just surprisingly chill lol. I think the scene that cinches her for me is by the end--her casual "everyone around me has something good about them" is actually a really mature and sweet thought. The fact that she notices shows how not self-absorbed she actually is. I think ppl see Cher as this like spoiled narcissist type, bc that's the archetype we expect. But that's not really it.

Avery is not wrong: Jane Austen herself said that ‘Emma’ is a protagonist that not much people apart from her will like. It was mentioned in a video essay on Jane by ‘The Take’.

I remember seeing a video where Alicia Silverstone explains the context of the movie and it’s ASTONISHING how little faith people had in Teen Girl Narratives. It’s something I took for granted growing up.

We need to remember that Clueless is an adaptation of Emma and there was also an age difference between Emma and Knightly.

Since they were only step siblings for a few months I don’t think it’s weird. They more like family friends then step siblings. The thing that makes it weird and uncomfortable for me is the age gap.

No because there was this one time when I was in my junior year of high school and I was on my way to 3rd and I was walking down the stairs to get to the first floor and on the second step I tripped and fell and took like 3 people down with me not to mention it was in front of at least 400 people. I have never been the same since that day and it’s one of those thoughts that keeps me up at night.
