I think some ppls strategies of learning a language is more efficient than others
@oldschoolwaverider4 жыл бұрын
Personally I don't believe it matters how long it takes someone to learn a language to sound conversationally fluent or native like. I lived in Korea for 5 years, studied on my own and learnt from youtube and talking with people who only spoke Korean, but by the end of my 3rd year there, I could converse with taxi drivers and by the end of the taxi ride they would turn around and be shocked that I was not Korean. It was basically because I had practiced talking on specific subjects for that specific amount of time during a taxi ride. I still could not converse with the IT guy at my school about why my computer was malfunctioning. Fluency is subjective. Just in the same way I could not talk about certain subjects in English such as politics or economics. The Iranian girl sounded like she had great rhythm and more native like speech pattern. The irony is that once I stopped trying to sound like a native and simply listened and imitated then over time I sounded more and more like a native speaker. My goal was never to sound native, but to be understood. I wish I had studied Korean formally and got a better grasp of Korean grammar, so I could make better grammatically correct sentences.

There is another side to be able to speak a language without accent (which is really the dominant accent, not accent free): the ability of all the muscles etc involved in speaking to adapt. It's why some people can imitate voices and others can't. I can't do anything outside my own voice. The only two languages I speak besides my native Dutch without a heavy accent are English and German, i.e. from the same language group and the direct neighbours. Even speaking Dutch, while not accented (I come from the dominant accent, Hollands), I don't have a varied tone. My 'speaking system' (so to speak) isn't flexible. I could train 12 hours a day, that won't change much. Some people have a greater flexibility and will have less of an accent in a, to them, foreign language. Accents brought back to their basics, are nothing more than how you place your tongue, use air and air flow, open or close your mouth, speak from chest or throat etc.

I just noticed he even rolled his eyes slightly at one point. 😅 It's just a matter of perspective, in my opinion he's just over exaggerating his reactions (maybe so he can get more screen time, because Korean TV, reality shows, audience in general love the type of exaggerated humor). Don't take unnecessary offense, it's really not a big deal.

@Amii-dw7jd4 жыл бұрын
@종이비행기 I thought it was jokes at the start, but his gestures were exaggerated and too much... Edit: I initially just agreed that he was too much and my comment got more likes than expected. I really don't want any hate to come to him because we are all different and this is not a big deal. Just expressions. No reason to hate on him and send him hate. I hope this helps prevent any unnecessary actions and that we can all leave it at a simple too much. The internet fuels spite. Good day guys💜

In his defense, my friend is korean and she explained to me that there’s a lot of bad blood between Koreans and the Japanese because the Japanese tried to erase korean cultural in the past and refuse to acknowledge it. Like I was going on a trip to japan and she tried to talk me out of it, saying it was disrespectful to my korean boyfriend. So maybe that’s why he seemed offended.

@melindamercier68114 жыл бұрын
Melissa Hanung John Smith is a combination of two of the most common first names and sir names in America. John was an extremely popular first name but has gone down (only slight) in popularity in recent years. Smith is STILL the most common last name. John Smith is also use as an example name in America. Hope that makes sense!
