I have experienced a similar case where the new canes would become water soaked and die off. I tried to avoid them becoming wet and did not over water. Rather disappointing as I love a full pot.

I haven't any Dendrobium Nobiles in my collection but now after watching your video I'm inspired to buy one and give it a try. It will be outside and hopefully it will be fine. I also decided to buy a Cymbidium. Yours are looking so beautiful. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.

That's awesome! Both are hardy, like lots of light and a cold winter. I grow them together.

hey Baotran, I know you didn't ask for advice, but here are a few thoughts: (take it or leave it) tons of keikis mean you are giving the plant too much water. the dry, winter rest will make the cane shrivel, and that is totally okay and normal. I wouldn't pot any dendrobium nobiles in peat moss--it will rot the roots by suffocating them. Try adding some chopped up sphagnum moss to your bark mix and maybe add some perlite. That will keep some moisture in there without there being too much moisture. as you know, dendrobium nobiles love to dry quickly. The other thought I had is that you overpotted your plants. Dendrobiums love to be potted in really small pots, and even though the canes are big, they like a tiny pot. I did this to my plant as well and it spent most of its energy growing roots. so maybe try potting your dens in a really small pot as an experiment! I hope this gives you some ideas, thanks for sharing! your plants are beautiful.

Thank you Anna for your tips. I will try it when the blooms have dropped and do my next repot.

Hey Anna one question I've never understood. Why small pots? Mine amounted so I don't understand what you mean by that. Thank you
@lindabaker60347 жыл бұрын
All the keikes on your nobiles are caused from watering and fertilizing at the wrong time. In seven years of growing nobiles I have only had one keikei. I really enjoy watching your videos.

if you want a green flower try Cattleya 'Elmhurst', a splash petal, or Brassia 'Prince Boedecker'. The brassia is quite large when full grown.

Lovely nobilies , but I would advise removing the keiki s when the roots are long enough and create new plants and let the mother orchids recover their strength, which they are giving to their keikis until their removed.
@davidcordon76747 жыл бұрын
Yes they love sun, I place mine by the window where sun shines the most during the morning, what I do is soaked the roots in water, no need to water them every day, mine are potted in peat moss, is it recommended to prune them or not? the person who sold two to my brother said, to place ice cubes over the roots, and not to water, also told him to prune them, I noticed that as soon the blooms fell off after beautifying the house with flowers, new babies were coming I am not pruning mine if is not required.

* Sigh * I'm so envious of your dens. Mine bloomed nicely last year when I left her in the garden over the summer (but got infested with slugs and snails! Yuck!) so this year I kept her indoors, but dry over winter and I only have one bud :(

When do you remove the keikis's? Or should you just leave them on the mother plant?
@BaotransBotanicals8 жыл бұрын
You can remove the keikis when they have at least 3 roots that are 3 inches long. It's to make sure they have enough roots to survive on their own.
@hildarivera47578 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you, it's because I did this and my mother plant died and so did the keiki, so I lost both ; ( It was an Epidendrum orchid

You try really hard but you need to understand why a plant makes choices. The one with fungus did what it could to make its species survive. That plant is likely to die, fungus is nothing to mess with. Cut the keiki ASAP, treat it for fungus and quarantine both, probably get rid of the mother plant. Quarantine any plants with suspected fungus, actually best to eliminate them.
