Dendrobiums in the Wild : Mounting Dendrobiums in Trees for Exquisite Blooms

This video has been timely as I was gifted a pot of blooming Dendro. With the rain recently it was soaking in water. I removed from pot and discovered it was root bound very tightly. Its drying at the moment as I want to mount it on trees. Your video is most helpful. Thank you.

Thank you. I moved into a house in Queensland Australia, there are all kinds of orchids growing in the garden under the hot sun. This information was very useful to me. Mine are growing on a bed of rocks, they look very overgrown but I don’t think I will ever be able to lift them out, they are enormous. I noticed some orange beetles on them, they damage and eat the leaves. If you mount them on trees, does it mean you never have to water or feed them? I appreciate you doing the video of growing orchids outside.

A lot of orchids grow in trees in their natural environment and if your weather conditions are the same then yes you wont need to water or feed , but if your area is hotter or dryer you may still need to water . The little orange/yellow beetles are Dendrobium beetle and they can be devastating to your orchids . Some of those ones you have growing out on the rocks like to get lots of sun so you do not want to mount them on trees where they will get too much shade. Send some pictures of them to us on facebook messenger I can give you some better advice regarding them , I would also love to see them growing like that 😍

Thank you for your wonderful, informative videos! I use stockings /pantyhose to mount my orchids. They don't cut into anything because they stretch and, in time the stockings disintegrate. Now to dissuade the monkeys from snacking on the orchids!!

some of them are left to their own devices but some get regular foliar feeding
