About the DNS amplification ... How can the attacker be sure that the DNS resolvers will return 1300 char responses?

The attacker picks a DNS query that returns large results, similar to the query I demonstrated.

why would the result return back to the webserver instead of the attack's botnet?

because the bot spoofed the IP address to show as if its coming from the server

Good question. The most sophisticated attacks are usually governments attacking each other or other targets

Money is a great motivator! It can take a lot of time and effort to find an exploit, but once you do it can be quite the payday for a malicious actor.

Once you get good at it I’m sure it’s much easier to utilize what’s already out there and then add to it. After all this is collective knowledge. Not one individual.
