Real name registrations? Passport or ID card, Pre bookings and X-ray machines to go to the beach?
I wanted to show you all how to take the bus in Shenzhen, and decided to go to China's most popular beach only to be told that I need my passport and a reservation to access the beach!
Shenzhen Tong (Chinese: 深圳通) is a contactless smartcard system used for electronic payments in public transportation and some other areas in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. It was developed by Shenzhen Modern Computer, the provider of automatic fare collection systems to Shenzhen Metro, with cooperation from Octopus Cards Limited, the operator of Hong Kong's Octopus cards system. It was first adopted by minibuses in Shenzhen, until the new system was introduced by Shenzhen Metro. The English name was originally TransCard.
Starting from January 18, 2006, Shenzhen Tong was gradually accepted by public buses to replace the old IC card system by Shenzhen Bus. All routes operated by Shenzhen Bus Group, Shenzhen Eastern Bus, Shenzhen Western Bus and most other private buses operators accept Shenzhen Tong cards.
Infineon Technologies announced it has won a contract to be the sole supplier of contactless microprocessor chips for Shenzhen Tong cards. Issuance unit volume of these cards is expected to exceed three million by the end of 2008.
Shenzhen Tong card can be purchased for RMB20 (Sale Version Card) deposit. A combined Shenzhen Tong and Hong Kong Octopus card is available, called the Hu Tong Xing, with RMB & HKD in different purses.

Over a hour on a bus with 20+ stops while holding your gear, drone, umbrella, and wearing a suit in July to the beach. And still have to walk around just to get in. That sounds brutal. Thanks for the virtual tour, I sincerely hope you filmed a different episode back with a different transportation method back home. I'd pay to see you filming yourself going back home on the back of a someone else's scooter while clutching some random dude's waist. Cheers.

The squeezing-in happens every time you want to enter a bus is reckless, and it often borders on brutal practices. They can use hard bags as a pushing weapon to get in first. The same will happen when you want to disembark. Sometimes the mess results that in the following you are not even able to get off the bus at your stop. What you see here in the video is nothing. Go ahead and try the peak hours, and then report back, guys. If the route has lesser passengers the driver may skip bus stops, and since he does not answer any questions and you don't understand the announcements, you won't be able to decide what's best to do now. You probably will get stranded somewhere unknown. Not the biggest problem inside the city, but on the city fringes there might be no taxi and nothing else to help you, except your phone navigation and walking back. - Make sure you have a working phone navigation. - If you have to be somewhere punctual calculate with a generous time margin, especially if it rains. - Be prepared for a lot of body odor. - Be prepared for sneezing, coughing and snodding right next to your face. - Bring ear plugs. - Always check the seat before you sit down. Always. The busses themselves are of a simpler standard. Even when new it feels like suspension is non-existent. Well ok we pay very little, so we won't get VIP coaches. After an hour I am completely relieved to get out. The number of people travelling around in busses carrying huge suitcases is astonishing. They park them in the aisles or on the seats, of course not in a corner but near, because they are scared. That is quite a nuisance when you have to get out. And I believe actually it's a safety hazard.

What's up with your video titles? Winston mate, I love watching your videos - have watched soooo many, but can you please make your video titles more about what the video content is? I really dislike the click bait titles that are very little to do with the actual video... makes me feel lied to. "Public transport in China is hard!" would be much more fitting...

Jake Pollard - Agree! And another problem with this title is that it evokes reactions from those accusing Winston from spreading negative info about China. These people will not look at the video objectively, they will only stare at the title. This sort of uncalled-for reactions Winston has complained about in other videos.

Jussi Piekkala mate, I watch the videos in full.....and I HATE China as a result. It's a police state, full of money hungry people who walk by injured people in the streets and inform on their relatives. Oh! And the govt censor free thought and last week put homosexuality in the same bracket as animal sex in their media guidelines. It's an awful, close mind, homogenous, racist society.

Click bait works. This is his job and he gets paid per views. I have no problem with it because I understand that's how youtube works. If he made money of a subscription service or something that would be different, but he has to appeal to the masses rather then the loyal. Not to say he doesn't like his loyal viewers. Blame youtube not himself. For example I know a youtuber who accidentally made a click bait title "make 60k farming in other peoples yard" which was actually what the guy was doing. That video got 100k views while others that were honest and not click baity got 20k views.

Emmanuel A. I'm not a homosexual actually, I just have the ability to feel empathy for another human being. Something the Chinese race seems to struggle with, confirmed by these videos. He's doing the world a great service, by forewarning us of what the world will be like should china become a global power. Censorship, less freedom of thought, racism, oh, and something you obviously have no problems with,,,,,,snitches.

People use their ID cards to buy tickets from the machines (or take if they booked on internet in advance) You don't have ID, it is natural that the guard ask you for passport. I don't see any problem.

Chinese quality doesn't completely depend on how much education they get. Some people with a bachelor's degree or even higher still litter and seldom slow down when driving toward pedestrians. Sometimes their self centered behaviors drive others mad. I think what I can do is managing myself and educating my child how to be a popular person. Hundred of times, I restrained the impulse of interrupting their uncivilized behaviors when they spat onto the floor of the metro, smeared nasal mucus on the wall of the bus, littered without hesitation, squabbled only for a seat, urinated in public. In China, you can see two extremes. Some are well educated, never bothering others and obeying disciplines strictly, while others only care about themselves. I think there is something wrong with our education, which strives for cultivating people who are obsessed in cutthroat competition and ignore others' feelings.

Plus, maybe there's more you can add, new discoveries that have been made, new developments, etc. China How It is 2.0, same names as old vids, would be awesome. Or maybe China 2017 How It Is, or China How It Is 2017, or something.

My personal belief is that if you are intending to travel to an other country no matter were that country might be, its your responsibility to comply and meet the legal requirements of the country that you intend to visit if you as the visitor don't like it or want to live and meet these legal requirements its simple don't go and stop the complaining then you don't have an issue. As for the differences in the country of destination yes its different, as that must be one of the reasons that you must want to visit it. its called adventure and growth.

As I recall you are supposed to have your passport with you at all times because you don't have a Chinese ID card. In Shenzhen as you know there are nearly 20M people in the city now so they have to regulate numbers somehow. They do pick up the trash afterwards. You can find deserted beaches in China if you are prepared to travel up the coast. Also re the busses, its not hard to learn the characters for your stop. I found them pretty easy in comparison to busses in some other countries. Another thing is that there is no queueing system, because the bus stop can be 100m long and I sometimes had to sprint to where the bus stopped to get on. In general I found people polite and not pushy, gave up seats to the elderly/pregnant/injured. The busses are the lifeblood of Shenzhen moving millions of ppl daily.
