Washing your own car is something I grew up with, but in China you can't wash your own car! I've owned a car in China for over 7 years now and it's very different from owning a car in America or South Africa (I have owned cars in both countries), today I'll explain to you why it's just not possible to wash your own car in Mainland China.

That’s not an expensive suit. His button-down is probably the best quality part. He’s probably got several since he’s in the habit of dressing up rather than down. Always a classic look.

Living in the middle of the USA where land and space is plentiful, I couldn't imagine being packed into a city like that. The older I get, the more important open space seems to be. Visiting big cities is fun once in a while, but it gets old fast.

When I lived in Palm Beach, Florida, USA I had to park my car on the street, Seminole Ave., as the landlord said my car, a 1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, was too big to park back by my apartment. A "PALM BEACH RESIDENT" bumper sticker was only $1.00 for a year but if your car was parked without moving for 48 hours without a current sticker it would be towed away. The second apartment, on Oleander Ave., had a little driveway on each side of the fourplex so no more on-street parking. Still was a good idea to have a current sticker or if you were driving in a residential area late at night and the police didn't recognize your car you would be stopped and questioned. On foot in a residential area after dark you would be stopped and asked for ID until the patrol cops got to recognize you. If on a bike, almost no chance to be stopped and questioned.

I can confirm that you can park your car in a suburb for free. My friend went on a 3 months vacation and parked his car near my house for 3 months. He came back, stayed for a week , didn't move the car and went to his country for 2 months. So, all in all, 5 months free parking.

Years ago there used to be an NYU garage that didn't check passes. Noticed they had no parking attendants so I used to get in with a guess pass and leave my car there for months, then say I lost my ticket and get my car out for the cost of another 1 day guest pass. No idea if it still works but this was when I was young and broke and knew my dad would get the car if it got towed (it was one of his cars that I was borrowing). Wouldn't try it with my own car.

That’s not even a joke. Having a car in china can be a pain your ass sometimes especially an expensive car. It’s not just stupid ppl opening doors at your car but also cats sleeping on your car in parking garages and scratching all over, some ppl just may deliberately scratch your car for no reason when you park in your neighborhood. Chinese mainland construction style learned from Hongkong.citizens in urban areas live in apartments, they don’t have their own faucet outside the apartment.so they have to go to car washing shop.in suburban areas, they live in house and there are faucets.Apartment-city style has its advantages such as containing more populations, containing more commercial properties.also there are disadvantages such as not having enough room for everyone,no enough parking lots for each car.

I think he meant No Self Service facilities like in the US. If the car wash is not Automated by computer and machines, then you have to get out of the car and use the sprayer and brushes yourself. Most places in the USA with employees is called a "Detail Shop" and you will pay a premium price for someone to personally clean all of the nooks.

Many comments disparaging his points about costs but he does have a good case: when I lived in London and went away for 2 weeks or 4 weeks, I could park in front of or near my house and leave it there without payment for that period of time. Better off folks can leave their car in the driveway. You could also wash your car in the street or in the driveway. This was a few years ago and I think there may be some restrictions for environmental reasons in London and other cities now but it would not be as restrictive as China, particularly in towns. When I lived in Cambridge in the UK, the only time I paid for parking was when I took the car into the town centre and, even then, if I wasn't in a hurry and was prepared to walk, I could find a place to park for free and take a short walk into the centre ( nine years ago ). As for parking, I could park the car in front of my terraced house ( nothing grand, just a low to medium-priced house) and wash the car. I think people referring to him as stingy have got it wrong: being cost conscious is always wise for anyone who is not wealthy and it does not preclude the ability to be generous with the money that has not been needlessly wasted.

All I'm saying is don't judge driving skills on race. One of my female friends who drives pretty ok would even voluntarily put on a "Caution, female Asian driver" bumper sticker just because she thought as an Asian female, she's supposedly a bad driver, I find that ridiculous.

Computers seem to suck in dust and accumulate it by design. I have the same problem here in NYC. and that dust isn't so bad for 40 days accumulation. The layer would be much thicker for 40 days here in an underground parking lot in NY.

This video helped me to appreciate life here in the Philippines more than ever. I still avoid car ownership and driving here as often as I can. A jeepney ride for P8 (about .16 cents USD) can not be beaten. A bus ride into Manila is very reasonable. At least there is space to wash and work on a car if we choose to. Our labour cost must be much lower as a car wash for my friend's "buggy" will be much less than what we see in the video. Thank you, serpentza, for posting, it is good to know what we would be facing should my wife ever pick up a contract in China.

In London there's no such thing as free parking either, only if you own a home with a driveway/garage. Most people park their car on the street which actually costs money, but is discounted for local residents. Although lately I think because of the kung flu the traffic wardens haven't been enforcing the rules, it's lovely :)

Correction......you do NOT have to pay for parking 'everywhere' in China. I live in Foshan, not too far from Shenzhen (actually just south of Guangzhou) and apart from basement style paid car-parks below apartment blocks, my town of Shunde has only just opened it's first paid parking area! The large Jusco/Aeon shopping mall is FREE. Parking at Tesco and Walmart supermarkets is FREE. Apart from the new paid parking area, locals will park ANYWHERE......and I mean ANYWHERE. They wont care of they completely block the pavement/sidewalk. They won't care if they double park. They wont care if they park on the corner of junctions. They won't care if they park over a pedestrian crossing. If they can fit their car (even nose first), then they'll park there.

I think he didnt go much into detail in this video as he usually does. Not sure about the laws in China, but in Germany for instance you are not allowed to wash your own car on the parking lot because of the oil that might dissolves and flows into the water. Cleaning places got a seperator in the sink, that seperates the oil from the water. So maybe Winston wasnt very spot on in this Video, but check out the others. Usually its very spot on

It really depends on where you live. The large cities in China are overcrowded, and the land is extremely expensive. Of course, there aren't many free parking places. If you know the location well, you can still find some. I managed to find some free space in Beijing and Shenzhen last year when I visit China. These are two of the four tier-1 cities in China and I am very familiar with them. In suburban and rural areas, there are plenty of free parking spaces. Actually, the labor is so cheap in China and washing a car costs a fraction of the price in the US. I have never thought of washing my own car when I lived in Shenzhen. When I moved to the US. I noticed the car washing is so expensive and the parking is extremely expensive in downtowns of San Francisco, NYC, Chicago, etc. In suburban US cities, it is easier to find free parking space than most tier-3 cities in China. Still, machine wash here costs more than a manual washing/detailing in China.

Completely nonsense information. There are a lot of places where you can park your car without any parking fees. There are painted rectangular parking lines almost everywhere. You just need to be patient and rest is your luck as anywhere else in the world. Down town areas are exceptional places where you can still park your car in parking plazas, basement or roof tops of many office building or malls. Even most supermarket chains offer you 2 hours free parking space on shopping of RMB58 to RMB100. And most charged parking lots allow between 15 to 30 minutes free parking. 99% information you are providing is wrong. Your information regarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier cities is also nonsense. Its seems that you are still not familiar and not properly integrated into chinese culture and society. Take a break and please stop spreading wrong information about china. You can park your car for free at more than 90% places in big cities like beijing, shanghai, Shenzhen, guangzhou, ningbo and hangzhou etc. Depending on your circumstances its quite easy for anyone to wash their cars without going to a car wash. I am also a foreigner and continuously residing in china for past 8 years.

Actually, you can not wash your own car in big cities. This rule is not applied only in China

if cities in US have drainage systems for washing cars then it is ok. But I don't see them in here. You should not use rain drainage systems when you wash cars because chemicals and oil will pollute the environment.

lies, in Shanghai there are millions of people wash their own cars. There are many old and new appartment buildings where people park their cars in the walkways or underground carparks and they wash cars whenever they want.

As of the date of this video, it probably was true that you couldn't wash your own car. However, in Guangzhou - In Clifford Garden - there is a self-carwash with 3 bays for self service. The Kiosk is all in Chinese, but it's fairly cheap just the same.

2:26 -move your POS car up a bit MUAHAHAHAHAHA you killed me with those subs! Im sure the kid wouldnt have said that to his friend not mentioning a foreign hitman looking guy in a suit but its funny AF how you put it there LOL! On the other hand, it would be damn hilarious to live in China knowing people just nonchalantly communicate that kinda way. Always great content and drone horizons mainly outro with the music are awesome! I decided to sub+bell!

Look how many views he has....that's why. I live here and can tell you he is full of crap. You can wash your car any where, get a bucket and some gallon jugs. The thing is maybe there are no hoses but also no enforcement of anything, wash your car anywhere, no one will approach you and tell you to stop, he is completely full of it. The only honest part is that maybe space is limited and you must use jugs of water. I really dislike these guys.

@@SCP-001DatabaseAdministrator There are hoses, driveways, and dirt patches in front of people's houses in suburbs and rural areas. The guy who hosts these videos are quite ignorant...
