I was in the Navy and stationed in very-hot central California (NAS Lemoore) when this came out. A buddy and I used to greet each other in the summer by saying "hey, how about this heat" just to mess with the people around us.

U ever wonder if he sung it live on Christmas becuz he knew how many kids were alone abused and hopeless and he wanted to give kids like us some hope that at least 1 grown up would try 2 be honest? I mean I remember being in Massachusetts on Christmas in 1994 and he was 1 of only a handful of people old enough to be my parents who made me believe they valued honesty. And we lived long enough to see this on youtube. Good 4 him and good 4 us. Peace out to fallen comrades from srebenica 2 boston harbor❤❤❤❤❤❤

My ex-husband who was still my friend and the father to our three boys loved this song so much. He would listen to it on repeat when it first came out. My sister made a promise to him that if she out lived him it would play at his funeral. We'll just about three weeks she lived up to her promise. Sadly he passed away at 47 and left us all heartbroken. He was my asshole for 26 years and I miss him so much.

@@zakofrx I don't know of JJJ (being a US native), but given people say that about a lot of things that have openly shown left-leaning roots they always had (and oddly so, assuming anyone even cares), Denis Leary very clearly made this back then to parody and make fun of middle class right-leaning and adjacent folk. @@MasterOfKnowledge. Leary is from Massachusetts. This song is basically every middle/working class Blue Dog Democrat in New England I grew up with. I don’t know his intentions, but being of his ilk I definitely don’t see this as specifically satirizing conservatism. It’s about class to me.

Now Grandpa Joe, are you telling fibbers again? We all know the unfortunate story of how he inherited the chocolate factory, so Wonka could flee all the lawsuits and charges for child endangerment, while Charlie shacked up with a rather handsome young Oompa Loompa girl, and left you and the rest of the family out in the cold to live in the back alley behind the factory, and chase rats and roaches down for food all day, while you constantly fight over it all in the courts. It’s all really so sad.

I disagree ...I feel like this specifically tries to paint people who are patriotic as assholes. I would have been there right with you longer ago as was the narrative for so long. After the 2 years we have been through and all that has been revealed one would have to be blind and in denial to not see the bait and switch that has taken place. You were entrained for how long to think patiotism and freedom was a villainous asshole thing to do. Well thank God for them now ... That is if you have not completely villinized the idea of God ... As well. And I'm not talking about man in the sky kind of god here .... That is also part of the rhetoric... I could go on ... No this message only serves as a piece of the evidence that this attempt to separate people into boxed oppositions has been in play a very long time ... And your comment ... Is evidence that in some people it has been fully integrated.... It blows me away that I can see how I fell into it as well ... All the lies The very people whom claimed to be opposed to the establishment are now bowing to it ... Ask your self ... How the hell did that happen ?
