Wow! What a brilliant blur spin at the end. I've never seen a gal skate so fast especially without flaw. Total respect.

I still remember the term "Biellmann spin" Still after all these years, no one can do it better!

...and she made it look like it took absolutely no effort. Been around a lot of skaters, and my word, her legs. Unbelievable! She should never be forgotten for being up there as one of the world's best spinners of all times. I recall an interview decades ago where Denise stated she wished she had (caliber) of the other pro skater's jumps and that pro skater stated she wished she had Denise's spins. What a powerhouse! Great to see this vid!

It's so interesting that the biggest pushes to spinning came from Denise Biellmann in the 1980s and Lucinda Ruh in the late 1990s, both Swiss. The stuff Denise was doing in 1980 other skaters would continue to attempt to emulate for 2 decades. Even today, the Biellmann is practically a requirement for women to be able to do on the Olympic-level scene. What Lucinda Ruh was doing in 1998 or 1999 is what everybody else is doing NOW. Nobody else was doing the half sit-spin in the late 90s, they weren't contorting into new positions -- see what both male and female skaters are doing now: a lot of the stuff Ruh did 20 years ago.

sbe79 Hmmmm. Interesting, and Stephane Lambiel is also known for his amazing spinning skill, and he's also Swiss.
@alexsdb97125 жыл бұрын
Yes, Lambiel is included and thank you for mentioning him. But there is still a gap in the list of Swiss skaters who are spinning wonders. Nathalie Krieg, who skated in the early to mid-1990s, she was a tiny and compact spinning powerhouse who might have been the best Swiss spinner when it came to centering and change of positions. Before Lucinda Ruh completed that number of rotations and length of spins record, Nathalie Krieg was tested in the 90s, and it was incredible.

My first thought seeing the name of the music and the costuming. ROFL. Whatever.
@Pastadudde5 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused about where this sits to be honest. the only issue I would have is her costume, it could have been made to look more authentic to what an actual Native American woman would wear. (the music - is it some sort of weird remix, never heard that track before?) . still not as bad as that awful "aboriginal dance" that Russian ice dance couple did at the 2010 olympics - that was truly heinous and definitely was cultural appropriation at its worst. If you want to see a ice skating routine that is cultural *appreciation*, Davis and White's Original Dance routine to Bollywood music during the 2009-2010 season is a great example (to emulate).

I think it was good that she went after Yuka. Denise is very technical but there isn't much in between to her skating. Probably because of the choice of her music. It's calculated almost. If Yuka performed after Denise then they would've forgotten Denise's performance right away. Denise is more acrobatics while Yuka is more artistic. It's like comparing apples to oranges really. It's all about preference. There are things than make you say "wow" and that's Denise while some that makes you say "that's just simply beautiful" and that's Yuka.

@user-pn2le7pv5s2 жыл бұрын
Дениз здесь 34 года . Отличная спортивная форма и фигура потрясающая. Что же происходит с нашими фигуристками , которые в 19 лет теряют прыжки и становятся тяжёлыми в катании?
@user-hg8ce5ct4v3 жыл бұрын
А ведь с таким шикарным выступлением она бы сейчас в России на чемпе или кубке в десятку не попала...
@juliaberezovska57493 жыл бұрын
Так разница же в старте катания лет так 40. Если бы Дениз тогда нужно было прыгать квадры, она бы их прыгала. Да и российские подростки могут показывать результат только 2-4 года. До следующей олимпиады не доживают в спорте.
@IronLady.3 жыл бұрын
Прошло 25 лет, что нового в ФК? Только может быть один дополнительный оборот в прыжках. Но ведь все фигуристки были с женскими фигурами, а сейчас у нас какие-то мушки истощенные. Не умет наша Тутберидзе работать с девушками.
