I think the reason that the details you applied with the posca pen did not come out was because they were buried under all the first layer you put down. What you put down first come out on top. What you put on last come out on the bottom....I learned that the hard way myself. Love your videos....you are so creative!

@KiwiJane14 жыл бұрын
Exactly right!! What you put down first, is what you see at the forefront of your print. The reason some things show through on some prints, is because of gaps and transparent layers (Golden paints are amazing for this process). This is also why the reveal is so fun for me...you just never know how it’s going to turn out and sometimes it’s even better than I’d hoped. Worst case scenario, I can print over what I don’t love.

I've noticed a couple of people using a solid clear acrylic sheet, around 1/8" thick and slightly larger than the dimensions of the gel plate, placed underneath their gel plate. The gel plate is centered on top of the acrylic sheet and when they want to view their layering they can easily pick up the gel plate and look at it through the back which will end up being the front of your print. It really helps visualize the layering, I plan to do this myself.

@DeniseLush4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lisa, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. So let me know if I got this wrong. You can choose any color to lift the print. It depends what you want. But in order to pull the print you need a final full layer. Hope that answers your question.

ALL THE NEXT GELLI PRINTS CAME OUT SO GOOD.....WHY DO YOU USE THIS WHITE COLOR ON THE END AND WHAT IS IT.....TFS.....:)

It's just acrylic paint. All the other layers are dry (cause you let it dry between each layer). Then you need to add a layer of paint or gel medium to pull(all the layers) the print.
@kimclark92765 жыл бұрын
Fantastic you inspire me! I have just had a go but my first pull just pulled off the light coat of paint? What did I do wrong? My 2nd pull was ok but not all came off, do I need different paints? It can all be so finicky, its really hard to say what the problem is. That final layer has to be thin. It should completely cover the plate, but you should be able to see the previous layers underneath. And then put that paper down right away and rub. Sometimes you may have to rub a little harder. Chances are if you only pulled that top layer of paint, its because you used to much paint. You want all those before layers to be dry. Hope this helps!

Yes I have. This was a long time ago now. I did have one gel plate I think I ended up throwing out. So I can't recall if it was that one or a different one. It was one I had had for a long time that wasn't Gel Press, so it just wasn't as good.

I have the same problem with pulling up several layers with a “clean up” print. The gelli plate pulls off some of the paper leaving big white blotches of no-paint in the print. I have tried everything. I have cleaned up the plate with baby wipes and soaked it in water, smeared it with baby oil and left it for long periods with the baby oil on the plate... nothing has solved the problem although it’s not as bad with deli paper and printing paper. It is worse with card stock ( 110 pounds laser inkjet copier smooth finish index paper is the worst). Does anyone have a solution?

Hi Denise, you know I just love gel printing and it’s so satisfying watching you, love your hand made stamps! Oh yes and totally get the peeling off layers on your brayer lol. If you are finding your plate is a bit dry (and I know you don’t like cleaning you plates 😱lol) but do give it a good clean and then rub baby oil into your plate, leave it a while, rinse it under the tap and leave to dry naturally, this should bring the condition back! Hope that helps! 💖

Thanks Rachel. So what should i give it a good cleaning with? Soap and water? Baby wipe?
@rachelangelaart5 жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, yes a baby wipe or water and artist soap, just to get the excess off. Then the baby oil will get the rest off as you massage it in. Let it sit for a while and rinse again. Leave to dry. Hope this helps

Hi Denise, I love watching your videos! Thank you. The first print - the bits of which that did turn out were totally gorgeous!! And I'm thinking that the yellow Posca paint didn't show up because when you pulled the print, the yellow marks ended up being under the stamped layer of opaque blue paint - it's a reverse stack of paint. Aah, and now I've read the comments below and see that Ruthie Miller said the same thing... but I'll send this anyway. Also, the Tim Holtz stamp set is Bitty Grunge. Extra thanks for your lovely work. Keep it coming!

Great video, I love the colors you use! I’ve been making some multi layer prints too, and I found that if there were lots of layers I really had to let the final layer dry (after rubbing on the paper), and if it was left for about 10 minutes the final layer would be bonded and cured, and the whole thing would pull up nicely 🥳🥳Great channel, I just subscribed!

Posca pens are best used after the printing is done. Same thing happens to me
@DeniseLush5 жыл бұрын
Did you read in the other comments that the reason why they're not showing up is because of the order it's laid down on the gelli plate. The first layer you put on your gelli plate, is the top layer you see when the print is pulled. So I added the posca pens too late in the layers.
@bethmiller42665 жыл бұрын

Really enjoyed your video!. It is so jam packed with helpful demos. You make me feel better because I have had the paper stick onto the plate stubbornly as happened to you. I had blamed it on the number of layers, maybe types of paints, or thickness in that area or the thickness of the last coating. But I see from yours that these don't seem to be the cause. You also mentioned a plate getting dry. I have addressed that problem by taking a small amount of mineral oil (from the drugstore) and rubbing it into a clean plate. ( I don't leave thick layers of paint on my gelli plates so I don't think that's the cause ). I wipe off the oil well with a non-lint paper towel like Brawny and then pack it away with its plastic cover and into the clam shell. I also have discovered that it is a big mistake to put the plate onto paper for a base, or to store the plate ...this pulls some of that sliminess out of the plate which isn't good. Hope this helps one of your viewers. I look forward to more from you as I LOVE your video approach and your style. Thanks so much!
@DeniseLush5 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the the paper gets left on too long and that's why it sticks!?!? Who knows. Yes I have had some people suggest mineral oil. I am going to have to myself some! I've also been told baby oil.I don't leave lots of paint on my plates anymore. But that one that is dry, I had. And I do not store it on paper, just the plastic sheets that came with it and in its original packaging. So all that I am doing right! Lol Thank you so much for your comment and compliments! Means so much to me!

@DeniseLush5 жыл бұрын
There are people who do. I have done it too. I would highly reccommend cleaning them right away. To not let the paint dry on them. Just water or a little bit of soap if needed. As long as you do that, I would think it should be fine.

Hi! I'm from the Netherlands and my sister in the USA gifted me a gelli plate last week and I've been trying it out after watching loads of videos and quite a few of yours (thank God for KZbin and people willing to share their knowledge!) My daughter is going to let me use some stencils that she uses for scrapbooking so I know which ones to order if I like them. What's that round thing you use to press the paper on the plate? I'd like to order one because it looks handier than using my hands and it looks like the pressure is more evenly distributed.

Should I just add water to make it thinner or do I need a retarder, if so which one? I don't want to end up ruining my gelli plate.
@DeniseLush4 жыл бұрын
@@gerbrak Now I am not speaking from experience so I don't know anything for sure. But you could add a high flow paint to it maybe. I have used Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid. It's purpose is to extend the working time of acrylic paints. So that sounds like a win. I haven't tried other brands. I'm sure others would work just as well. Why not experiment and try different things and see which you like best. None of those things should harm or gel plate.
