What a fantastic video! Thank you Denise. After wearing wigs for over 20 years - first with "hair systems" that were essentially expensive toppers to my long hair to cover the alopecia on my mid-scalp, to buzzing it all off and getting long synthetic and then synthetic bobs and pixie-shags - I spent all of my wig-wearing worried about realism. I rarely changed styles, making Jon Renau Jazz my trademark for the past 10 years. I went with the closest to my own hair color, then auburn, and finally "Rum Raisin" which has lovely ash blond highlights. But only my husband and my (now) late best friend knew definitively that I wore wigs every day. Some may have suspected but no one ever questioned me, other than to occasionally ask where i had my hair colored. Now that I am 58 and planning an early retirement, I finally don't care if people know I am a wig wearer. I took the plunge and got Noriko's Reese in Chocolate Frost-R, which is a far lighter color than i have ever worn. People at work must be able to tell that my pixie couldn't possibly have grown out that fast...even with being remote for the previous two weeks. I just don't care. I have always worn my wigs with confidence after years of worry about my inch wide part that i desperately covered in Toppix. I have ordered a few more short styles in slightly different colors (nothing too dramatic yet) that I will start switching out more frequently. Why not. As others have mentioned, our African American sisters are bold and proud about their wigs. Life is too short. My wigs will now become accessories, not just my alternative hair. Your videos are always educational, entertaining and encouraging. God bless your wig ministry for continuing to build up your sisters (and brothers) so that we have the courage and confidence to wear our hair as we want to be seen.

I am Caucasian and I really love wigs cause they are absolutely beautiful and easier in so many ways. I love to change my hair color and style often but I do worry about coworker’s judging me cause I am a cosmetology instructor at a beauty college. I just started there about 6 weeks ago and just bought some really cute synthetic wigs but I guarantee you they will notice cause of the colors and length cause my natural hair is a pixie grown out a bit and very thin lol

I have shoulder length hair. I purchased my first synthetic heat friendly Racheal Welch hazelnut color topper. I have worn it for one year !! My hair stylist cut it to my liking. It cost little over 300.00. I wore it everyday to work for 8/9 hours per day and to church on Sundays. I got sooo many compliments on the color of “my hair .” I love these videos by Denise, I have learned so much, thank you. I have come to embrace wig/toppers. Saying this to encourage other ladies. I have just turned 60 and I get so many compliments on my hair and the hazelnut color works great for my golden brown eyes. So go for it!! Watch these videos they are so great.

Denise I also want to add how insecure white women are with wigs when black women walk around all day with wigs that are so easily spotted and they wear them with pride and confidence. Why is this? I work with women who have no issues with everyone knowing they wear wigs. Not only that, it could be a different one every day or they have those weaves put in. So one day they wear no wig, the next day they wear one for a while and then they have their weaves put in. Confident and strong. We should all aspire to being that way. If you watch the show 911 I love the wig the main character has on this season. It is beautiful on her.

I'm new to wigs. I'm shocked to learn that wigs last only a few months. I thought they lasted years. I have a lot to learn.
@sisterspooky Жыл бұрын
@melodied4314 - They can last for years, but it’s entirely dependent upon how often you wear them, what products you use on them, how often you wash them, and how you store them (as well as the fibers the wig itself is made of). My wigs have lasted me years. I wear a tichel more than a wig, and when I _do_ wear a wig, I rotate the wigs I wear. It’s helped with longevity for all of my pieces. 😊 Welcome to wigs! It’s so much fun!!! You never have a bad hair day, and you can be a blonde one day, a redhead the next, a brunette the day after that, and swap from long to short, and everything in between. It’s an amazing accessory to every outfit! Have fun with it. 😃

I only wear synthetic wigs because they are so natural and easy to care for. Shorter styles that don't rub the collar can last me about 6 months before `I must trim the frizz or discard them.Still cheaper than salon visits, AND I always look fabulous going out the door. HF fibers don't last as long; they frizzz more quickly than non HF

I think you covered your topic very thoroughly! I am a senior and prefer shorter heat-friendly wigs for the way they feel and move, or don’t move. Haha It took a lot of trial and error and loads of money to come to that conclusion. Having said that, I now have more tools in my tool belt to be comfortable wearing regular synthetic. One thing I simply haven’t been able to get past (so far) is a regular synthetic that has no mono features at all. Thank you for your thoughtful and quality content.

Thankyou for such informative videos Denise. I have had alopecia since I was 16 years old- I am now 72! Over the years wigs have improved hugely thank heavens- you name it,I’ve tried it! From human hair tailor made ( supplied by the NHS),to off the shelf synthetic. Discovering Utube videos and wig reviews have been life changing for me- just finding other people out there going through the same difficulties and sharing their experiences was amazing! It can be quite a lonely thing to cope with- especially back a few years ago. Anyway,just want to say- for me short Heat friendly are the only wigs for me nowI only use heat when it’s straight out of the box to help create bangs ,get the fibre to sit the way I want,and that’s it! They look and feel so natural ,great colours and stylesI am lucky that I can afford human hair but really choose not to - too much fuss,and also feel slightly uncomfortable wearing a wig that was once growing out of someone’s head that I have no clue about...... thanks again x

When I started wearing wigs about 15 yrs ago, I was overwhelmed and rejected my first couple Gradually I became more confident and less afraid to trim and alter wigs as necessary. One piece of advice I give is never start trimming the first time you try on the wig and never trim when you're tired at night. Wear it for a few hours so the heat from your head and the ambient temperature allows the fibers to relax. Secondly, don't try to do all the trimming at one go because it's too easy to remove too much hair. Relax. Take it easy. Take a little off, then stop for a while.

I prefer human hair wigs. I learned the hard way that a “wig specialist “ can really ruin your wig with a bad cut. Make sure you go to a licensed hair stylist. Be very specific about the style you want. It doesn’t grow back so you are stuck if cut too short!

A fantastic talk Denise, thank you. After 5 Editor's Picks and multiple everything else, I found that to extend the life of heat-friendly fiber I've had to cut off the matted friction-ruined ends as I think you did with Straight Up with a Twist so I've found I get so much longer wear from the unit. I've not tried plain synthetic short curly but I will now. Having said that, long HH wigs have been in my collection and yes they're gorgeous and Soooo expensive. After 20 years of buying online and experiments and volumes of money later, it's all still very stressful but fun. We don't seem to have the boutique brands of HH units that you mentioned. down under (near the South Pole :) but everything you said is just spot on! We are so conscience of our hair pieces even after years of people not really knowing it's not growing out of our scalp. My photo taken in 2022 at my 70th birthday, is Editor's Pick in an updo to disguise the damaged ends before I cut it. xx

Denise is right on the money about pixies-if cost and longevity are big factors-go short. I wear quality mens wigs (Hairuwear) , with very short napes, in heat friendly fibers (they look and feel incredibly real). I take care of them, and because there’s so little friction involved with the shorter styles, I can get 12-18 months of daily wear out of one wig. They need silicone or Envy Repair & Renu toward the end, but trustable friends and coworkers tell my hair still looks great.

My personal experience: Heat friendly long wigs feel matted at the nape after just a few hours of wear. My regular synthetic long wigs start feeling matted within about a week. I gave up on HF wigs. For my regular synthetics, I detangle, then dip the backs of them into boiled water with Downy in it...just a quick dip, then comb with a fine tooth comb, then repeat a few times. They feel fabulous after that, but they get matted again after several hours of wear. I end up having to dip after every 1-2 wearings (all day wearings, that is." I haven't figured out how to maintain curly long styles.

That is so interesting! I agree that long synthetics are challenging... I find myself wearing them in updos a lot to try to save those fibers. I need to do a video on this specifically... I have been wearing California Beach Waves by TressAllure which is a long wavy heat friendly style and man am I struggling with it. The problem is... some women are so good at caring for these... and many have figured out how to put curl back in which I haven't mastered yet... love your method for reviving fibers, i will have to try this!

I'm brand new to wigs and this video really helped me to decide that human hair wigs will not be my go-to. I never thought about how it would respond to the weather and all that stuff, and how it wouldn't hold a style like the synthetic ones do. That alone is information that is going to save me a bunch of money. Since early December, I've been a part of that Amazon Vine program where you get items to review and get to keep them. Wigs are one of those things where there is no tax consideration (known as 0ETV) so I have selected a few wigs. I'm shocked how nice some of them are and they are so inexpensive. I didn't know what a short lifespan they had, though. And most of the ones I've acquired so far are heat-friendly so that sounds like they will take even more tip-toeing around and I'll need to be extra careful with combing. I think I need to watch that part again. I love your videos, Denise. You might want to put tabs into your videos so people can find certain sections more easily.

I own a wig manufacturing company since 2001,I mainly design wigs for medical hairloss for children and adults.Im hoping by June 2023 to start non-profit to cover cost of my wig line because they have become very cost to make and add more economical wigs that we refer to as hybrid which combine the best of human which to me is the softness and the best part of synthetic which I think is color.Lace wigs as well as monofilament are wonderful but we are so experimenting with non lace and less lace because most of these wigs are made in china,and it is more difficult since the war to obtain even the parts for these types of wigs.My company offers custom lace ventilation by 3 wig designers,but the ideal of mass producing lace products with a American made product is highly unlikely.

Hi Denise thanks so much for this very informational video!! I love watching your videos because you are so descriptive and speak very bluntly about your experience with your wigs. I do have a question about the cap differences between Synthetic Wigs and Human hair wigs. How do you find them holding up? I don't have any Human Hair wigs yet. I have experienced some disappointment with caps stretching out and not fitting correctly especially after washing them a couple of times. Many Human Hair wigs have different types of caps and require gluing which I have never tried.
@heywigsister Жыл бұрын
I really need to do a video on Human Hair caps because they can be quite different. I have found a way to wear them without having to glue them (the ones that typically need it) and need to do a video on that as well!

Denise, with regards to the regular synthetic short and curly wig you had on first (in the begining of the video): (1) Where can I order that? (2) What is the cost more or less? I am totally in love with it🤩🤩😍😍

Hi! I listed all the wig I wore in order in the description. The first one is Girl Mono in Hot Hazelnut Mix. Here is a link and the code DENISE30 will save 30%: www.namebrandwigs.com/products/ellen-wille-wigs-girl-mono?_pos=1&_sid=9b94ce87e&_ss=r

Great video Denise I really enjoyed it do you know if there are naturally curly HH wigs that haven't been permed? I cannot wait for your HH series! 💖

I have seen a few that were listed as naturally curly, but I think those are VERY rare... most of the ones I've seen are permed.

Where can I get the In Vogue Santana wig??? Checked online..can’t find it anywhere. HELP!
@heywigsister8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it isn't available right now, but Kirsten (the owner of In Vogue Medical Wigs & Beyond) told me that she is hoping to bring it back soon! If you are on Facebook I recommend you join her private Facebook group where she announces all her wig drops, and also killer special deals for those in the group (she offered a human hair wig once for $200 that usually retails for over $500). Here is a link to that group: facebook.com/groups/httpswww.facebook.cominvoguewigs

Will you go into the different type of human hair, I.e., Mongolian, Brazilian, Remy? I really want to get a longer human hair wig. Not even super longer, just something like Alpha Blend by BelleTress but I can’t stand the frizzing and tangling. Looking forward to your series on human hair

A great video Abundance of information but I am totally confused... I just Purchased a wig and don't know how to control It... I got mine from a medical shop...it's a Gray blue color with some silver going through it. It's a pixie cut synthetic wig...I find it too high on top and dark. Also I find the fibers are really hard nothing natural about it, I think that's the problem.... I asked if I could apply very low heat to it ,and she said oh no It's plastic ... . watching your video you said You can apply low heat now I'm just confused. I think I must have purchased the wrong wig for me ...
@shellymac75972 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry that you didn't get the wig that you wanted. It sounds like you got a regular synthetic wig. You can't use heat on them. I tried to use heat on a regular synthetic wig and I ruined it. Can you return the wig and get something else? Beginning a wig journey is hard enough with out a big disappointment. Hugs

@@shellymac7597 Thank you so much for replying back greatly appreciated... No I can't take it back Because she had it styled for me.... I didn't realize there were different kinds of Synthetic wigs... Thank you anyway for You're feedback... I will continue to Study your videos And maybe I will learn something. Thank you again

Hi, Savannah! I'm am so very sorry your first wig has been a struggle. That is so common and such a bummer. When I talk about applying heat to a wig I am talking about a Heat Friendly Synthetic. Sounds like you got a regular synthetic. There is so much to learn on this journey! Here is a link to my New Wig Wearers Series- I hope it helps! bit.ly/NewWigWearersSerie

Denise, I don't know if you are aware, some human hair wig stores let you make payments on the wig so you aren't paying so much at one time. Also, when you talk about human hair wigs sometimes the quality is less depending on where the human hair comes from.

Thanks for this very helpful. I'm wondering if you have experience with human hair synthetic blends? I was looking for a comparison video between the brands. I have one envy hair wig which feels amazing after 5 years of occasional wear, but have no experience with Ellen wille human blend wig. I was hoping to find someone to compare the available brands.

Denise, I want to find a replacement for my human hair wig, a bob style, which is the perfect style and length for me. But until I do, I have So many baseball caps that I have tried that look terrible on me because I have no hair on the top and the top back my head is flat. One size ball cap does not do a thing for me. Do you know where I can look for a smaller hat?

What type of oil do you use on long real hair wigs?
@maryross1903 Жыл бұрын
My first wig was a synthetic, just don't like it so I am human hair girl all the way. What oil should a person use? I look forward to seeing your series on human hair. Is there a special shampoo and conditioner on human hair or can you use your bio shampoo and conditioner? Thank you Denise for all your help. Can't wait till my Emma human hair wig comes.
@heywigsister Жыл бұрын
Hi, Mary! You can use any high-quality human hair shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner and oils. I haven't been wearing human hair wigs long enough to have any favorites to recommend yet... but a good place to start would be sulfate and paraben free products. Some brands people seem to recommend a lot are Olaplex brand and Moroccan Oil brand.... I just recently saw someone recommend using pure jojoba oil as well.

My first was Blake Remy Jon Renau. She’s 4yrs old still like new. I hydrate with isotonic humidifier then spray with Keratin light Coconut mist. Let it absorb for a few days. Going shorter I jumped to acrylics. My Acrylic journey taught me what I wanted.,I mean exactly what I wanted. At 60% off BOOM!l A lovely local salon styled it.

Great run down. I own multiple HH pieces, but my family liked a Belle Tress HD best. Go figure. I like to change my style and color of hair according to my outfit, so synthetics are great for that, but unfortunately I don’t look good in short hair. 18” is my preference. I feel $300 for a wig to only get 2 mo out of it is a bad value.

Non heat defiant wigs break down as fast and the fiber feels dry. I used to buy Estetica brand wigs a lot, but i stopped lately and switch to heat defiant wigs. The heat defiants i have lasting farther than the non heat defiants.

How do you know when the wig is at the end of its life? I wore a synthetic Rene of Paris for 2 years and Then stored it when my hair grew back.
@heywigsister2 жыл бұрын
Some of it will depend on the person... some people wear their wigs to the point where the cap is falling apart, and some thing a wig is worn out when it starts to feel dry. Personally, I think a wig is at the end of its life when you just don't feel comfortable in it anymore and don't think it looks natural. You can also take steam to it (both heat friendly AND regular synthetic) to revive the fibers if they are starting to get frizzy (keep in mind it will relax or straighten a curly/wavy piece, though).

You can use a clothing steamer... I've seen people use a curling iron (NOT plugged in) and a steamer to put curls in a regular synthetic. Curlers will also work. Search Curling a wig with steam on KZbin and you should find some videos.
