I grew up playing StarStable too and I fully understand that it feels like they have gone astray from their original style. I don't think the new style is bad in and of itself, however I think what makes it strange is that they are mixing several different styles lile you said, and that becomes confusing and frankly makes it seem like they don't have "a style" now since they don't choose one and go with that. I am forever nostalgic and a lover of the old UI style and even the one from the StarShine Legacy and StarStable games before the online. And I understand that a company can keep the essence and charm it has but put in a different style. But they got to do that, choose A style, not multiple different ones, making the game style incohesive. Love your videos and how you always express your honest opinion. 😊

I was under the assumption we'd be getting a new wardrobe SYSTEM that allowed us to hold an unlimited amount of items but they literally just updated the ui and added additional slots. thats all they did. Minus the new "search" and "sort" feature which is stupid because it doesn't actually search anything it just highlights the items you're looking for instead of putting them to the top of the wardrobe when you search for them to make it easier. No. You still have to scroll through each page, its honestly annoying. On update day and the day after it took me a little over 2 hours EACH day to re-organize my closet and i'm still not finished. One page I have still can't hold everything i want in that specific page. So this update was just a huge flop. I'm hoping they can improve and add onto it in the future like they said they would.

we missed u denis!! i love that you shared your opinion and i obviously respect it, however i'd like to share mine if that's ok!! i get what you mean with the UI however in my opinion it's the opposite, this new style fits the game way better and it's more unique to sso and it has more character, let me explain why i think so and you don't : the browns and cartoonish wood texture is SO horsey like it makes so much sense, it's not in a "sad beige" way but in a manure/wood/hay/mud/sand way but the reason why many players think the opposite is because sso has always had this vibrant blue and darker blue but that style is not unique in any way like it could fit any game especially mobile games,, but the new style is giving computer horse game,, but I get why a lot of people think it's so unique to star stable i mean you grew up with these colors being sso coded!! once again this is just my opinion, anyone is entitled to their own and i respect it,, so happy your little kitty is helping you with your mental health animals are truly amazing

I miss the charm and atmosphere old SSO had, i know they have to update the game and i love that, i love the new horses and stuff but they changed the vibe completely, it used to have mysterious and gloomy vibes which made it unique and i loved those old soundtracks so much. It just made it stand out from the other horse games and had its own charm but nowadays its just a standard happy vibes horse game. I don't miss the old crusty horses or old graphics, i miss how the game and world felt.

Everything you’re saying UI wise definitely makes sense dude. I studies video game art for 1 years so I get it lol. They always said, if you want a job become a ui designer, because not many people liked doing that part, including myself. I also get the caring for an animal thing. It just gives you purpose. I feel like my brain chemistry has genuinely been altered since I lost my horse. Caring for an animal is motivating. They cost money so they keep you out there working so you can give them the best life possible. They are so healthy for you

SSO has sadly beige mommed there UI 😔 I was hoping they'd have gone with maybe a purple especially since sso did say on there social media that purple is sso "theme colour" its why there logo is purple and all there posts are in it. As for the 3 UI's so its a bit of a mess but going off of there developer blogs we have some answers as to why we have a mess of 3 UI. SO we have the old UI which is the blue one, than we have the....black and white one this one sso has claimed to be a "placeholder" this is why half of the windows are still in old UI CUs sso never botherd to change everything over in this one since its just a placeholder, and now we come to "beige mom UI" This is sadly the official and new one its why the stable customization new inventory and pause menu are all in this style...now if sso holds there word here we should be seeing everything slowly turned into this style IDK how long that will take. And TBH IDK why sso had to redo the entire UI cus they said the only reason they changed it was cus it couldn't fit onto screens well and this was cus it was saved as raster graphics all they had to do was draw over the one files in illustrator and save them as vectors, cus the Old UI was great for PC it had the character and theme of a horse game was very simple and easy to understand everything was where you needed it to be and you didn't have to sort through menus to find things like this new one!

you ranting also reminded me of how much personality and life the npcs used to have and how much that has changed. the npcs from redwood and dundull are all so bland and forgettable, with no personality and no ‘goofy’ star stable personality like loretta, marley barney etc, big bonny, the baroness’s chauffeur, mr. kembell (?) .. the quests with those characters used to be so funny and just plain weird which added so much to the game. the humor they use now maybe just doesn’t resonate with me anymore but honestly when i replay old quests i still find myself giggling at how odd they all are and how much personality the npcs and quests used to add to the overall game experience :’)

The problem with the original UI and initial design and branding is that it's VERY outdated. The old UI is very nostalgic, and was great for the early 2010s with the 'bubble' look and cool blue colours but just would not have the same effect on the new target audience which is still young girls but this time in the 2020's. The old blue cartoony style is obviously very nostalgic for many, but I do think people are blinded by that and can't look at it from a design point of view and realise that it's just not modern enough for a game that needs to continue pulling in new players to this day. The only thing I think I could understand them keeping from those old menus is maybe the colours, but even then it's probably brown for a reason and it's probably just what attracts kids to want to play now. Personally I actually really like the wood brown colours, it reminds me of pony camp somehow, or doing barn/stable work as a kid. I do think they just need to make everything look the same though as it's sooo unappealing to the eye with how many different UI styles are currently in use. I'm mostly sad that SSO lost it's old art style but at the same time I know that I enjoy that art style because I'm 25 and it's nostalgic to me- a 12 year old now would probably look at it and be put off, and I guess that's just why things still have to change. I think a lot of older players especially fail to realise that they just are not the target audience anymore. I do also think the current shop vs exit and wardrobe menus are actually very very similar, it's just one is brown and one is blue. The menu buttons could maybe use a little outline but otherwise it's not that different.

I'm pretty sure the "light box" effect is just because of the game engine they use for the entire game... They would probably have to start from scratch on a new engine to achieve more realism

I mostly see what you mean about the UI. I don’t have much beef with SSO modernizing it in so much as their inconsistency. The colors and designs between the character interface and the main menu and everything else are so varied. The multiple and completely different UI designs make the game feel like an unfinished product. 🙃 As for bonding with your cat, I don’t find it selfish at all. As sentient beings, we are hardwired to care for both members of our own species as well as other species. Affection is mutual. There’s nothing wrong with the Dinky Rat wanting to care for his Dinky Cat!

I think this update was an absolutely banger. Initially I wasn't too hyped about this update because I never cared about my wardrobe's look. But as soon as I logged in and saw the updated UI and functionality I was in love. Previously I didn't even want to create outfits (I was alawys in the same outfit) because it was a HELL to make one. I had to move the wardrobe window EVERY SINGLE TIME when i clicked on it so I was able to see my good damn character. Now it's always on my screen's right side and I can easily make outfits with or without my horses. I can zoom in, zoom out, toggle off/on horses and characters. Previously I had to rotate my camera in that tight space every time i wanted to see my outfit in different angles. It was a mess. They simply couldn't add more space to the old wardrobe because the "Old" team created StarStable so badly that it was impossible to add new slots into the wardrobe. 17 tabs were the maximum without breaking and crashing the game. We knew that because SSO has already told us this several times. I'm pretty much impressed how they managed to update this thing. I'm looking forward to additional updates for the wardrobe such as the color filter or the outfit saver function. Due to the fact that the tabs are scrollable they will be able to add infinite numbers of new tabs in the future but I agree that a "+" button would be awesome so we could do that on our selves. I would even pay for it with SC if there was an option for it. As for the color scheme of the new UI. I absolutely adore it. It somehow gives Moorland vibes for me with the beige and the wooden stuff. And with the purple/pink highlights it really feels Star Stable for me. But I agree that a "dark mode" with a darker brown would be great for people who are sensitive for light changes.

Yeah totally agree on the wardrobe, while I dont mind the update much the new ui style doesn't fit with Star Stable's vibe, it doesn't feel like star stable anymore, much prefer the faded dark blue/dark blue and blue ui thats seen in the game overlay, the global store and the horse purchasing ui since it feels like Star Stable And oh my goodness your kitty is adorable!! Animal companions help significantly with mental health, I dont know what Id do without my little black kitty as she brings me immense joy

I dislike the new wardrobe system because its hard to see the colors in the actual sso lighting, like now im having the same issues as I had w/global shop. I'll buy something but the colors aren't the same in the game (bcs of lighting and stuff) and this frustraits me. I am NOT a fan of the current wardrobe system. We asked for a BIGGER wardrobe not whatever this is. I don't mind the new colors though so eh

the closet is really a mess, my biggest problem is not being able to see the character on the horse. also what you said about the continuous page, it’s so annoying. i had everything separated on different pages and now it’s just shoved together… plus it is so hard to move things from page to page like i’m not even interested in fixing it

So glad to see another video from my fave SSO KZbinr! I always look forward to these!! In my KZbin video, I compare that paint saddlebred to one of those chocolate themed candy corns! I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s like brown and yellow and just plain weird. So I agree with your opinion Dennis ; it’s not the best looking one I’ve seen released by star stable. Also absolutely love your precious kitty! I have one of my own and totally understand the joy of caring for a living creature that looks to you for comfort, love, and care. Even simply being the warm-curled-up-on-the-couch-with-a-blanket bed for them to curl on top of… that means the world to me ❤ Edit: I also see what you mean by the whole aesthetic of the game changing and not matching. Did you notice the new jeeps for the trailers?! They look realistic whereas the trailer still has that Star Stable feel and look to them. IT DOESNT MATCH AT ALL! 😢

It feels like their UX/UI designers don't understand what they have to do. (And they're definitely not players - probably the main problem?) The ultimate goal for both sso team and players would be to update the old and crusty things, but (from player's side) don't change the game completely. And they do not understand it. It feels like they didn't believe in a old star stable at all, and that they never wanted it to be like it was. So now as they have money and pretty strong regular fan base, they do everything THEY wanted the game to be. There isn't any research at all, I'm actually quite surprised they don't even show any preview of how everything will look and get a feedback first (even on a small amount of players), because I'm sure sso wouldn't change this drastically in basically last couple of years. Players wouldn't allow it, not just because of nostalgia, but also because of FREAKIN USABILITY. I mean did they really think it's a good thing to shift the character and a horse to the right to a SMALL FREAKING CORNER so we can't see it almost at all?? What about people who don't have a good eyes? It's ok that we can see the clothes bigger, but at the end, I DON'T JUST WANT TO SEE HOW THE CLOTHES LOOKS, I WANT TO SEE IT ON MY CHARACTER AND A HORSE. It's a same thing as when you're buying the clothes irl. Why do you thing there are test booths in every shop? To just be there? No, ofc, people see something nice and want to try it on themselves to make sure it also looks good ON THEM. CMON, THAT'S THE POINT OF CLOTHES, TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. But when you can't even see it properly? Don't understand. Same thing with almost everything new they come up with. The usability and player opinion just isn't there. They need a new fuckin UX/UI designer, the best choice would be a long-time player, someone young who understands how to modernize things and knows good UX/UI but at the same time remembers the feeling we had while playing old star stable. Someone communicative and strong, who can speak their ideas right and loud, and creative. Hope they find someone like this as soon as possible.

I like the new wardrobe. But, however, I wish there was a way to collapse the wardrobe and view the horse and player full screen rather than only in the corner. Also a item color sorting system similar to the one in the global store would make life significantly easier.

Regarding the UI, you are so right. Design is such a core element of this games, at least it used to be. Now it is a bit lifeless. It is just so meh, whatever and cold. Every brand has a signature look and design. Sso used to have it, now it is just a UI mess, little bit of everything everywhere😅

They totally could have put even a little effort to make the clothes at least stay in separate pages, and the filter option is practically useless..as all it does is highlight the item.. and make the others unclickable.. that and the search function only searches the current page. And the scrolling is annoying, because you cant see everything all together. All i wanted was to be able to automatically sort in different ways or use filters. It just feels like such an inconsiderate update, and i think it says a lot of the state of sso. They do updates because they want to, and they pretend its for us without taking the time to actually think about them, or seeing what people would actually like.

I've been playing for more than 11 years, but I think the new colors could work if it wasn't for the tacky, cheap, and lazy looking gradients, and the million UI styles, because brown and beige are yeehaw wild west tumbleweed horsey colors or whatever. I know that we're in the simplified, rounded edges UI era, but if they witched the rounded edges gradient to for example visibly wooden signs/planks/buttons, it would look better and more characteristic. Heck, most of the blue parts wouldn't even have to be changed if they just slapped a brown/beige frame on UI windows. Or even better, there could be a "dark mode" with the dark blue UI and a light mode with the beige one. There are so many ways to solve the UI style clash problem, but as long as other parts of the game are also all over the place in terms of art style, I don't think this will be a priority for the SSO team. To reach Epona or Dino Valley for example, you have to reach level 14-16, so you would think that it will be a shiny new area, and then you're met with old, crusty environment with old, crusty NPCs and old, crusty horses (and icelandics). But sure, let's update Fort Pinta and Silverglade for the 7th time first. This problem also presents itself with the trailblazer track notification settings, as every other notification can be muted on the same settings tab, but the trailblazer track notification settings have their own exclusive tab, and it's just not intuitive design. I also wish that for the wardrobe, half of the screen could be an outdoor environment 'dressing room' instead of what we have now, because some of my horses can't fit in the frame on default zoom, and I wish I could have my player sit on the horse for easier color matching. The clothing slot space has a scrolling wheel now, so I don't see why it can't be skinnier to make the horse fit the preview. Of course, I might be overthinking all of this since I recently started my game studies masters education, but it's the little things that are missing that would give SSO its unique artistic identity back that it had when I joined the game. At least they seem to be trying to add more gameplay recently, which I really like, such as trailblazer track (why doesn't THAT have the beige UI??).

To summarize what I take it that you mean is that you're not a fan of the Sad Beige ascetic as it has become very popular lately and seeing Star Stable becoming a Sad Beige baby isn't fun, even for me who hasn't played for very long. But it is the vibrancy of the Starstable core colors that has gotten sad beige-ified as they're trying to update their branding. If all the UI was the same blue color scheme for all of it, it would be better received by the older community as well as it's not too far off the original every veteran know and love. The game looks better than ever before, all the horses coming out are incredible works of arts, yet nobody really want to play the game regularly because the feel of it as you say, is like "any other app" while before it was a game to experience both alone and with friends as you explore the world. The world feels hollow, not because of the lack of depth of the quests and stories in there, but because the UI throws you out of the experience.

SSO's legit got what, **4** UI styles fighting for dominance right now? The buttons on the screen are that faded/shadowy gray, very minimal, lowkey hiding, etc. The Main Menu is entirely brown and beige. The Wardrobe is trying to be that but it taking up the entire screen while not really following the same style just doesn't work. And the Global Store is desperately trying to hold onto nostalgic SSO vibes but it's a losing battle. The character/horse sheets ARE still old SSO but it won't be long before those are murdered too. It's just a mess. Pick a lane and stick with it, please.

I think SSO is erasing its uniqueness. Before, the light blue UI with the horseshoe and the stylised icons was so recognisable. You could see it for a second and instantly clock it as SSO. Now, bits of it are old, and bits look like some cheap mobile game. What I don't get is *why*?? Why try to make some monotone, uninteresting UI when u already had a good thing??
