If you check "Keep continuity" Vray will render incorrect dispplacement - look at the bricks.

thank you so much, your tutorials are really helpful . i dont gettit why u do it for free though, but godbless u for that, your tutorials are waybetter than most paid tutorials on udemy.

I've been doing it for free for like 3 years now. Like i've said on multiple occasions i may make some premium tutorials, but until then everything i make will be free and available to everyone.

Great video mate! A question: What if you want to use a different material on the inside of that wall (stucco for instance) how would that work if that material also is a pbr material using displacement (but different value)? Since that vray modifier is on the whole object…

Will the shift parametr also work without problem on objects where there are corner? Like the wall on your example? I remember having some problem in tha past with it (but i cant remember what were they :-) )... it should work also on the wall correct? But you have to be carefull to not overdo the number (in shift) or the walls, even when using displacement with shift would "cross penetrate" each other, right? but it shoudl work
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
The Shift basically makes it so that the displacement base is moved. Something like moving the pivot point on a modifier

I don't know if it is too mucho asking the following: how to make a displacement of a more organic texture? Like a rock wall, the edges always look bad. Should i model it instead?
@DenisKeman6 жыл бұрын
Displacement can give some nice results to a certain degree, after that if you need a more pronounced extrusion it can't really be driven by the texture and you need to sculpt the details.

Thanks for all your tutorials! you saved my life many times! However, in this video there is something strange according to my previous knowledge... I really can't understand why in your displacement map the spacing between the brick is white instead of black...shouldn't it be black and the bricks white? Maybe i'm missing something or i missed something in the video :D Thanks in advance

Very nice, but for me it doesn't work well. I have put a stone wall height map in the displacement slot and if i increase the amount over 2 cm, the seams start to appear in some places of the edges. I would appreciate your advice.
@DenisKeman6 жыл бұрын
Displacement can only get you so far before it starts breaking at the seams. If you want to have the details pop up more you would need to use actual geometry for that.
@thanosnaclor6 жыл бұрын
You are right and thanks for the quick answer. Problem, is that for me, sometimes, it happens at low displace amounts (just over 2 cm) and it doesn't seem to occur when i use 3ds max displace modifier.

Hey, I am trying to model a cliff face, i have some displacement map on it to create the strata details, i used to have the continuity problem, after keeping the continuity checked most of it is cleaned up, but i still see some of the braking at some edges, any idea how to solve this? my continuity is at the lowest possible value already.
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
Honestly it kinda depends on what is the quality of the cliff that you want to have and the amount of details. If you really want to have a particular cliff face best practice would be to sculpt it and then bake the information onto a lower poly. As for using displacement on a plain, after some distance you will get "breaking" due to tessalation distance.
@radarmustafa7 жыл бұрын
How would i sculpt it? I have only ever used old school software, Max vray and photo. Any help with as to how i can sculpt it would be awesome. This is my first time trying to create such an environment for an Archviz project
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
Sculpting would generally be done in ZBrush or Mudbox .. so whatever is easier for you
@Techgamerism5 жыл бұрын
vray displacement mod is not working for me it shows no deformation even if i bump the amount high . and when i try to add it to a plane the plane moves upward but there are no details in mesh
