That was a great tutorial!! I never realized the UVW unwrap modifier can be used so simply. I knew about this plugin for a long time, but never thought to get it. Now I see why so many people use it. Thank you!

You could set your texture to "mirror" to help eliminate the seams in your tiled texture. You still might see a mirroring of the texture, but it will be less noticeable than the gradient shift. But as you said, if details are really important, moving the UVs as you did are the best way to handle it. I've never tried floor generator, I usually make the map in photoshop and apply that, floor generator looks much faster. :)
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
Main difference when using Floor Generator opposed to a texture is that it's actual geometry. This means you get much better details from light, as well as the AO effect. Also you can use the floor generator for walls and even roofs. All in all it's a pretty decent plugin

hey Denis, thanks for the tutorial. Second example doesn't work for me, maybe you can help: I have the plane, the floor generator with herrington, added the uvw map (tried both planar and box), added the uvw mapping clear (and also not, didn't see any difference in the result), added the unwrap and the flatten mapping but with negative results, the boards change but 20-30% are incorrect in their position. I've also tried collapsing the mesh before adding the uvw map, tried changing some values in the flatten mapping window, but it was all useless. Any ideas? Also, if I use the basket shape the result is worst, about 50-50 right and wrong position of the texture on the boards.

Untick rotate clusters in the flatten options when you flatten it.

Thank you Denis, this is very useful! But do you have any clue why some planks flatten vertically and some - horizontally so I have to rotate them to get the proper result?
@DenisKeman4 жыл бұрын
Just rotate it until you get the desired result

Hello, thank you for your tutorials but I have a question , I notice when I try to scale my map in UV Editor, the map expanding in different direction. Do I need to turn off Rotate clusters in Flatten Mapping panel to fix that problem ?

Thanks Denis! you are a great mentor. I learn every time i see your video's. Denis, is using Iray a bad choice? I like the preset materials they made.. Greetings from the Netherlands.
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
Not at all. IRay is a pretty decent renderer on it's own, but it's a different renderer which means a different workflow.

Great tutorial, thank you! Is there really *no* other way than manually adjusting the position of the UV shell to eliminate the apparent seams?
@DenisKeman6 жыл бұрын
You can always use a tileable texture and increase the tiling number till you get it to a size that you like.

Nice tip with unwrap. In max 2017 when i do the same procedure, unless very little number of planks, max crashes when i press flatten. And if it makes it to flatten em, some are rotated weird and not all parallel as in ur tut. Any help appreciated :) thanks again

dont really know what to tell you about this as i've had 2017 do some crazy unwrapping for me as well.

Do you have the gap between the floorboards? When I add FloorGenerator into my floor plane then it automaticly transforms into floorboards and through this boards I can see the other side especially with "Grouth Len" parameter greater than 0. Should I build FloorGenerator on a separate plane in order to avoid the holes? Thanks for your great tutorial !
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to see the gaps simply put an underlying plane beneath the geometry and that will fix any light leaks that you might have

I had a quick question, so I'm working on my personal computer at home, if I use this floor generator plugin at my house, then load up the file on my schools computer, will there be an issue with compatibility, or should it be ok?
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
As long as you collapse the stack it should be any issues. In case you don't know what that means, right click on the floor mesh that is created and convert it into edible poly
@BryanTromp867 жыл бұрын
what about the side of the planks? Is there a way to do that with the plugin to get a correct uv map applied?
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
You can select the middle (main) part of the plank and then stitch the rest of the side planks to it. That way the texture will be consistent and flowing

Requiest. Sir please show how to render a room without maps or taxture for light test. Is ther any settings for disable maps.? Please help me out.
@shady55536 жыл бұрын
I believe you would create a vray override material and apply it to the whole scene by turning on vray override in the render settings and applying the material there.
@telefonkirtys7 жыл бұрын
Off topic question. Why you use light portals? For me they only add noise and don't do much else.
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
It's basically for the environment light to know where to get into the room from. Basically it makes the light act more physically correct
@telefonkirtys7 жыл бұрын
But is it nesesery? I mean does it worth the extra amount of noise it produces?
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
Dealing with the noise is another issue that you deal with separately. In the end it all boils down on how much details you want to have in the lighting
@telefonkirtys7 жыл бұрын
Ok, then other off topic question :D When talking about noise, what's your opinion on vray denoiser? Is it good, or you hate with a passion for blurring texture detail?
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
I don't hate it at all but like i said it all depends on the level of detail that you need. For me personally i prefer to manually get rid of noise rather then depend on the denoiser
@arqzarg62147 жыл бұрын
Why don't you use the multitexture map?
@DenisKeman7 жыл бұрын
:) one of the reasons why i made this video is to show you how to get the texturing done without having to use the multitexture map. Usually a case when you have to work with a custom map provided from a client
