@TKDDLJ09
@TKDDLJ09 5 жыл бұрын
Higher Ground did deserve more. But ever since the Jury have had such an impact on who wins, half of the songs who deserve better ranking gets left in the dust by the jury, because "They dont get it" I still remember Poland with Color Of Your Life - Michał Szpak, they got nothing from the jury but basically won the peoples vote. How can Eurovision not see that something is wrong with their voting then? When the population agrees but the jury doesn't? it has really just fucked up the whole show :(

1962 - "Vuggevise", when you say it sounds like a lullaby, that makes complete sense since the title of the song means lullaby in danish. 1982 - "Video video", whaaat. No that song is so catchy! To this day you can yell "Video video!" anywhere and everyone will respond "Video! Den kører nat og daaag". I loved that song way before I even knew it had been in eurovision. 1989 - "Vi maler byen rød" Ah love that one! Yes it is a classic here! Also I loved "Only teardrops" but of course there can never be a song that suits everybody's preference.

Tommy Seebach was (and arguably is) a big legend in Denmark! He's extremely underrated in my opinion. And Debbie Cameron in with him makes it even more amazing! (I can talk about this forever). The entry from 1957 is one of my personal favorites (along with 1963) And I totally agree, we don't like that broadcaster who didn't like Eurovision and decided not to play it in those 12 years (honestly, I'm very mad at him and I was born 38 years after 1966) 1978 - I've always thought that Mabel's song deserved better, it was very good! Of course, when you don't understand Danish, it can be quite difficult to understand the context, but basically it's about a person asking himself and his doctor why he suddenly feels 'sick' or weird inside. And it's basically because of love - thus "Boom Boom" because that's how the heart goes. The woman from Hot eyes in the 1988 performance was indeed VERY pregnant - in the eigth month. I believe there were doctors backstage to be ready if she got into labor. 1989 with Birthe Kjær - oh yes, she's an absolute legend. 1990 with Lonne Devantier - it's a guilty pleasure of mine, I can't help but love her and the performance. 1991 - Anders Frandsen - he's deeply underrated in my opinion! It's a cute song about love, yes maybe cliche, but he deserved better. 1993 - Tommy Seebach is back at it again. It's a very good song, but I understand why it ddidn't do very well. I can recommend listening to his son's version of it though! "Rasmus Seebach - under stjernene på himlen" 1995 - very cute and lovely! I have nothing good to say about the years 1996-1999 lol, but the Olsen Brothers in 2002 is amazing! As you said, it was an underdog, and I've always know that we (Denmark) are underdogs. But it's an amazing song and also so great in Danish, its called "Under et stjerneskud". 2001 is also just very lovely! I have a HUUUUGE soft spot for the 2005 performance, "Talking to you". Jacob Sveistrup has an amazing voice and again, the danish version is soooo good. It's called "Tænder på dig". 2010 and 2011 are both good entries, which I like quite a bit. 2012 version got a low ranking, which was quite unfortunate.. It's quite a good song, I liked it, but I can also see that there was a huge competition that year.. 2013 - well, it's a winner and this was the song which drew me into the whole Eurovision world. I remember the moment it won, I was ecstatic and out of myself. I've always loved this song, the flute never bothered me. But I respect your opinion. The year 2014 to 2016 is just foolish, in my opinion lol. I did like the 2017 version with Anja - I've listened to some of her singing, and she is a force to be reckoned with! What a voice! 2018 - I regained my viking acenstry, so amazing and just what Eurovision needed. I know this was up until 2018, but I kinda want to rank the next 3 songs (to 2021). 2019 - Leonora did such a great job and managed to sing in 4 languages (English, french, german and danish) - I was so proud of her! And it was a "happy go lucky song"! 2020 - well, no countries participated, so I wouldn't know how Ben and Tan would have done with their song "Yes". I grew to like it quite a bit though - probably wouldn't have reached the top 10, but maybe/at least to the finals. And last but not least, 2021 with Fyr & Flamme... I honestly hated the song in the beginning and didn't want it to win.. But it did.. And then I accepted it.. Then I started to listen to it some more.. And now I love it! It really brings back that 80's vibe, that's been missing in Eurovision since.. well, since the 80's... It's different from all the songs this year AND it's sung entirely in Danish, which hasn't been done since 1997. So I am rooting for this song 100%

I love how the english version of the 2005 song is like “I’m talking to you, through my heart. Talking to you, girl, just tell me where to start” (soooo romantic) And then the danish version is like “Jeg tænder på dig, inden i. Tænder på os to, og noget jeg ikke tør’ sige” Which basically means: “You turn me on inside. I’m turned on by us and something that I don’t dare to say”

The entry from 2001 was originally a Danish song at the national selection but for the Eurovision English lyrics were used instead. It might just be due to the fact that I'm Danish but I personally prefer the Danish language version of that song - it is still quite popular here. Btw, for a long while this was quite normal for the Nordic countries - having a song originally being in the native language at the national selection and then having it changed into an English language version for the Eurovision 😊

As a late 80's child, I had the "pleasure" of growing up in the 90's when we Danes started doing our own rap music, and most of it sounded just as bad (if not worse) than the ESC 96 entry. It was usually some 30+ guy trying to get "cool" with the teens, but usually ended up being loved by children with lyrics like "I am cool and I drink soda". Sure, there were some good artists, but the 90's in general was a very bad era for rap music in Denmark.

You're so right in many things, for example about Birthe Kjær - the song is a classic in Denmark, and Tommy Seebach was and is still, especially through his son, a big name i Denmark. As a Dane born in 1995 here's the songs I consider the most popular eurovision songs based on popularity in media and those I personally remember hearing growing up: 1957: Skibet skal sejle i nat (Translation: The ship is sailing tonight) 1963: Dansevise (Translation: The dancing song) 1978: Boom Boom 1979: Disco Tango 1982: Video Video 1983: Kloden drejer (Translation: The globe is rotating) 1984: Det' lige det (Translation: That's the thing) 1989: Vi maler byen rød (Translation: We're painting the town red) 1990: Hallo Hallo 2000: Fly on the wings of love (Original titel: Smuk som et stjerneskud - meaning Beautiful like a shooting star) 2001: Never ever gonna let you go (Original titel: Ved du hva hun sagde - meaning Do you know what she said) 2005: Talking to you (Original titel: Tænder på dig - meaning You're turning me on) 2010: In a moment like this 2013: Only teardrops 2014: Cliche love song 2016: Soldiers of love 2018: Higher ground Personal top 10: 1. Det' lige det 2. Dansevise 3. Only teardrops 4. Higher ground 5. Hallo Hallo 6. Cliche love song 7. Fly on the wings of love 8. Talking to you 9. Where I am 10. Kloden drejer

Regarding "Video Video": I don't know the full story, but I remember hearing that Brixx were forced to annunciate the word "video" properly for Eurovision, while they normally sang it using a shorter, colloquial prounciation (basically "Vee-joe") twice, followed by one full pronunciation ("Vee-deh-oh"). The chorus is much more memorable with both pronunciations.

Honestly, today, Tommy Seebach's "Under stjernerne på himlen" ("Under the stars in the heaven") is one of the most famous, beloved, classic songs. Especially since his son, Rasmus Seebach (another huge Danish music name here) began singing in memory of his late father, also to remind us that Tommy did not have such a great life, and was even an outcast in the music industry in some ways, to show us that he had quality art in him. And love.

1993 - Tommy Seebach - "Under stjernene på himlen" (Under the stars at the sky) is a very loved song in Denmark. Tommy Seebachs son, Rasmus Seebach is one of nowdays most famous singers in Denmark. I cannot count how many hits he made, and he is for sure a party starter. Some years ago he recorded this song too, and it instantly became a hit again. The song was originaly a lullubye he song to his children at night.

I like the more calm and warm way you talked the viewer through the videos. Funny 'let's do this' as this was complete opposite of screamy. Besides I prefer comments on melody and lyrics as you do over commenting dresses and hotness of artists. That why I like escunited videos. Agree on teardrops btw. And yes she was pregnant at that time and vuggevise is Danish for lullaby. Thought you knew that.. 😋

2010: Very cliche song on my first ever ESC so I don't remember liking this much, but it's okay given the competition looking back. 2011: This song aged better than the others, in a year that didn't age well at all. 2012: zzzzzz 2013: I didn't rate it at first but I love it now. The flute is the best part. 2014: Fun, for the most part. 2015: I like it but I see why it did not qualify. 2016: Okay enough I guess but why did they compete separately from fellow Westlife member Nicky Byrne? 2017: Lacks panache. 2018: Love this! The Viking vibe feels a little put-on (i.e. they're letting the staging do all the work) but soo good.

I love this video, and you are so sweet to our country! But a lot of the songs that is slow, has a really catchy lyric, just in danish. Like the things they say are just too good! And a lot of the songs, that you said aren´t catchy, was probably because their melody were slow, but all the lyrics were the best! Some of the songs has I been raised with, so I love them! haha:)

Their 1995 entry is the most enjoyable one for me and it feels like a timeless tune. It has that magic to it, the composition, the tempo, the backing vocalists, everything works. 2000 is also great, I'm just a little off-put by the nasal voices. 1963 and 2018 are pretty cool too. Only Teardrops is okay to me, I had it in 7th place in 2013.

1989 - Birthe Kjær - "Vi maler byen rød". The title is a danish slang expression for having a good party. Birthe is one of Denmarks most famous singers, and still going strong giving concerts in an age about 70 years old. She is both popular among old, middle aged and young people in Denmark. This song is often played at private parties througout the country.

Some comments: I find 1997 not that bad. The backing vocal part is catchy. I can see why the juries saved Denmark in 2009. The melody sounds decent to me and I don't mind his voice. 2012 song didn't work on the big Eurovision stage, but there's some charm to it. I low-key like it. In 2013, Denmark was not my personal winner (predictable song structure and too repetitive), but once I saw the performance I knew it would win. The staging was well-thought out and stood out in a ballad-heavy year, besides having a strong pop melody. 2014 is almost like a Bruno Mars parody, but it's fun, super catchy and well-performed! 2016 gets more hate than it deserves in my opinion. It wasn't that good, but the melody is somewhat catchy still.

"Jeg rev et blad ud af min dagbog" means "I ripped a page out of my diary" (more other less translated directly. A classic, of older music history, I have to admit that I as Dane know less of, than the previous one from '57. - Try to listen, when the chorous is sang, then you get an idea of how it's pronounced "Vuggevise" IS a lullaby... Yes, Tommy Seebach was a big name in Danish music history. He did have a few very well known songs, if they didn't reach the hights of "hits". His son, Rasmus Seebach, is in the music business today. Try to see if you can find the recording of the Danish songcontest version of "Kloden Drejer". This little jump she does, is today called a "Shrimp jump". I think the story was that she didn't have any coreography to begin with, and then she got told to do this little jump. It's cute I think, if I remember correctly, Aud Wilken were in traditional folksuite...but that could as well have been at the Danish contest. And yes, Birthe Kjær, is a great name in Denmark. She has made versions in Danish of several songs from Eurovision through the years as well as some of her own Frandsen, did sing greatly.
