The history is really relevant today, but it irks me how the staff explains it wrong. It's a song contest. Voice, peformance etc is just to stand out. An act shouldn't be rated lower cause of the performer's voice (if there is no mistake). It's a song contest not a best singer contest. Song doesnt become automatically better if there are high notes or sth.

I find the fact they didn't put any information about Soldi in the video very sad. Mahmood sings about how money can change the relationships in a family, he sings about his father and the way he left him when he was just a child, his frustration. At least explain something about his life, his origins. It was just sad to hear the little girl say that he wasn't the right person to represent Italy or to hear the woman say that we were better the years back because in my opinion, he's actually one of the best artists we have at the moment. I think soldi (Italian for money) needs some context: the singer (Mahmood) is half Sardinian and half Egyptian and is singing about the complicated relationship he has with his father, who is only interested in his son's riches. Soldi won Sanremo (the Italian pop music festival/competition) and many Italians around the area where I live (central Italy) did not approve of this because they said that an Italian music festival should be won by Italians, not "dirty immigrants" (their words, not mine). Therefore, I think it's actually great that, especially with the current Italian government, Mahmood won the biggest music festival in Italy (which Italians actually feel strongly about and which is about serious music) because it shows that not all is lost in Italy.
