Where I live in Denmark, from my window I can see one of the current much smaller offshore wind farms. When the Wind is good, Denmark is getting over 100% electricity from wind.
@KawaloliASTP3 жыл бұрын
And here is the problem, what is happening when the wind goes slow? Import energy from nearby countries and burning coal. Look at "CO2 electricity map" to see the impact of CO2-Emissions of your country from day to day. :) Greetings from germany ^^
@JohnnieHougaardNielsen3 жыл бұрын
That's not a problem. Getting CO2-less energy a lot of the time is a good step forward, and as the video shows, we're nowhere near finished. Wind has in a major way already reduced the CO2 footprint of Denmark. Obviously, more needs to be done. Some of the year, we do import quite a bit of hydro power from Norway. Many homes are heated with waste heat from manufacturing, instead of burning stuff.
@MprLarsen3 жыл бұрын
MrASTP93 in that case we do import a lot of electricity from both Norway and Sweden, which are mostly powered by hydro energy. But yes, slow wind turbines are a huge issue, that is also the case if it blows too heavy.
@JohnnieHougaardNielsen3 жыл бұрын
At least the plan of producing fuel does allow a lot of flexibility in using the power when available. The ability to replace fossil carbon for other energy systems than electricity may have a huge future.
@blavand71053 жыл бұрын
@@KawaloliASTP Weather counts for less than 7% of the downtime of offshore wind farms. Repairs about 1-2%. So they're operational for about 90-95% of the time. With the newest technology, a windmill can produce 60-70% of its output on winds down to 5ms and still produce power on winds at 3ms. So the loss gets lowered significantly, making the need for import almost non existing. As wind farms isn't the only power production.

I'm curious how efficient they expect this to be. Are they starting with fresh water or using desalination to get the water they're making hydrogen from? It sounds as if it could easily be under 25% efficient overall.

The power to X is not determined yet, but there are many options. Instead of cooling and compressing the hydrogen you can just run it trugh a sabatier process with CO2 and get methan. It's the recent climate change that is responsible for the Copenhagen sewage system being overloaded by rainwater and that has to go somewhere, so I guess they decided to let it out in Oeresund instead letting it fill the streets and houses. They are already working on ways to separate rainwater from the sewage system so the sewage cleaning facilities only has to deal with real sewage. But that is not done overnight in a big old city as Copenhagen. In the meantime they are working on ways to reduce global warning and thus the amount of water that can be held in the atmosphere which should hopefully lead to less extreme rain over time.
