More than 100,000 Danes turned out for the unprecedented event, which saw the 83-year-old Margrethe become the first Danish monarch to step down in almost 900 years.

Congratulations to King Frederick and Queen Mary on their ascension to the Danish Throne. Even though Officially King Frederick is a member of the House of Glucksburg ( Itself a cadet branch of the House of Oldenburg), in reality he is a member of his father's house , Monpezat, and so now the Throne of Denmark has passed from the House of Oldenburg to another house after a continuous reign of 576 years. so now there are only two monarchs left of the House of Oldenburg in europe - King Harald of Norway and King Charles III of the UK ( I know, I know he is officially a member of the House of Windsor but his father , Prince Phillip was an Oldenburg).

They weren't "dethroned." Queen Margrethe removed the titles of Prince and Princess from the children of her youngest son (Prince Joachim). I think it's similar to how Princess Anne's children have no royal titles in the UK. Joachim's children are still referred to as Count and Countess.

He almost certainly will not be giving out royal titles. Not because he has any beef with his brother, but because he support the idea of a slimmed down royal house. A slimmed down Danish royal house is seen as the most fitting choice for a modern Danish constitutional monarchy, just like there was no coronation today or other big traditional ceremonies, the monarchy adapts to fit the nation and not the other way around. The big ceremonies were abandoned when the absolutist monarchy ended. Modern day Denmark does not need a lot of active royals and with royal titles come an expectation of activity on behalf of the monarch and the nation, by stripping her younger son's children of titles Margrethe also removed all expectations of service to the state from those kids. It has already been signaled that even the new King's younger kids won't be expected to have any official roles in the monarchy for many years to come, and only the new Crown Prince will receive a royal stipend and duties as befitting his title and position as heir apparent. The younger children of the King will only be included when appropriate.

why should he burden them with that title... The title carries the responsibility of preserving the outstanding reputation of the danish royal family, being fare removed from sucession by the appointment of a new king, and a crown prince. These ppl should be free to be people, pursue their dreams, not think of the monarchy, although i do support our monarchy immensily, i do recognise the pressure carrying the title entails.
