I think a couple of comments on this video is in order. The interviewer is a former News Anchor on BBC Scotland. She is part of the Scotch Independence movement. What does it have to do with Denmark you ask. Many Scottish people feel that they get cheated by England in the Union. So she is looking at DK. Scotland is exactly the same size as DK, people wise. So she is looking on Danish system on how we do it here. No wonder they dream of becoming a nation like DK. DK is one of the richest countries in Europe, measured in GDP per Capita. The video she makes have been shown in theatres across Scotland. It is a political video, but it catches the Danish way of doing things very well. The keyword is flexibility, the Danish system is incredibly flexible, and can adapt to changing times very quickly. It will become very clear in the next part of the video. I am very glad, that Dar is showing the video. It explains very much why DK is doing so well.Most videos we see on YT, shows how DK is. In this video we take a peak in the engine room. It will explain why and how we have come to be Denmark, as shown in most videos. As she says in the video: "It is not by coincidence, it is by design".

My Grandma attended Højskole when she was 70. I think it was for two month or so. There are all kinds of teaching. From litteratur to woodwork, take your pick.

There's in fact a VAT on all goods in Denmark. So we also pay tax on whatever we buy. The VAT is 25%, or 20% of the price you pay. Some goods, such as cars, are taxed differently for various reasons. There's a so called "fat"-tax too, on goods with a lot of fat, to incentivize people to buy products which are healthier.

The folk højskole also takes a lot of international students, so it is not just for danes. The 1st half year i spent on a højskole almost half was international students the rest was nordic ( danes, swedes and norwegian). We had pepole from Canada, the US, Brazil, Argentina, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Slovenia, Slowakia, Finland, Costa Rica, Iceland, Faroeisland, Estonia, Lithuania, New Zealand, Indonasia and Vietnam.

but dar. you already paying 37% in taxes. you actually pay more in america. when you combine all the extra added taxes you actually pay MORE than we do.. but we get 10 times more in return than americans do. thats not an opinion. thats FACTS :)

LOL not EVERY state puts a tax on food and stuff in america but alot of them do but here in denmark besides the personal income tax we have a 25% VAT on EVERYTHING we buy and you didnt pay attention to it bc it is already incorporatet into the price of the product....but even with that most of us are ok with , bc it still funds what is NOT funded in america
