Dennis Dart Y196KNB with Voith Gearbox - HTL Buses

In Malaysia, we have Dennis Dart with Allison AT545 gearbox that give the bus operator problems. The transmission get stuck on 2nd gear that cause the engine overheat. But it is different when we using Dennis Lance with ZF 4HP transmission.

That's also the case for 1998 Dennis Tridents in Hong Kong. They have a probably tailor-made long-travelling first gear in the 863.3 used.

we have some in London but instead of being in an ALX200, we have super pointer darts with these same engines. i try and get a video of one.

Love the sound of a Voith Gearbox. We can never actually hear the engine of a bus with a voith gearbox because the gearbox itself is so loud. I love the sound of a voith. Although on a Dennis Dart I prefer an Allison gearbox. I have grown up around Dennis Dart's with Allison gearbox's. So it brings back memories of when I was younger. Although I love the sound of a Voith aswell. ZF's have no real sound to them I think. Also, don't Voith boxes put more of a strain on the engine.

No wonder our Singapore's DAF SB220LT & Scania L113CRL type of buses which was bodied by Walter Alexander have the same 'bus stopping' indicator as shown in this video! :D

DK05 FWB in our town has a voith I think. It's weird, a Voith in a dart.

one allison gearbox was doing that the other day i was on a dennis dart the gearbox wouldnt change gear until the engine was on full rpm then going round corners in was jumping in 2nd

that the cummins engine 5.9? seems faster with that voith rather than the allison gearbox. the allison gearboxes sometimes get stuck in 2nd gear

When you next go to Liverpool Halton have got similar sounding MANs and stuff. I would like another ride on this Dart as it was quite different. I have heard them with these gearboxes elsewhere, maybe Stagecoach in Cheltenham may have some.

@video47. Thanks I think I will do that. I still prefer an Allison to a Voith. I only prefer an Allison on a Dennis Dart. But I don't really care much for ZF's, they just seem to sound so boring. But I'll check out the B10m and the B10B to see what they sound like.

Hi, I went on a VDL bus yesterday with a Voith gearbox and the bus is already showing signs of wear and tare and bad maintenance, it's only on an 09 reg but the bus went to pull out of the station but it wouldn't go into gear, the driver kept trying to push the gear selector into place and he went to accelerate off and it just rolled backwards. After turning off the engine his 4th attempt was succesful, oh how I love Arriva northeast and there badly maintained buses

It looks like a Dart form the inside but the body isn't Pointer.

still awful up the hills with a voith, these tend to go up into 2nd gear then decide to shift back to 1st gear when tackling a hill which isnt always good the allison is absolutely rubbish at hills but not many gearboxes work that well with the cummins 6bt. The allison delivers a lot of power combined with a well maintained 6bt

the voith is much better when you take you foot offf the pedal is using engine braking so youve got a controlled speed going downhill. but in athe allison at545 the revs drop to idle when you take your foot off no control going downhill

@jonny2k100 ZF's can sound good, for example in a Volvo B10M or Volvo B10B a Voith doesn't do it much justice compared to a ZF, I have videos if you do a search The ZF Gearbox, The Voith Gearbox and also The Allison gearbox. ZF's can make some fantastic 'wooing' noises, voiths tend to hold on longer and usually only have 3 or 4 speeds with a whine, and a whoosh to slow it down. If you watch those three gearbox videos you can see various examples, all of which I have learnt from peoples comments

Well you are telling wrong. Search its registration (Y196 KNB) on Google and it's clearly a dart. It's an 11.3meter Super Pointer Dart. Nuff now.
