I went to a Styx concert in the 80s that I still remember to this day. Then, about a decade ago, I saw both the current lineup of Styx, and Dennis DeYoung with this band, within a few months of each other. While the current Styx lineup put on a flashier and more polished show, the classic Styx harmonies just weren't there. And while Lawrence Gowan is a VERY gifted musician with a good singing voice, there was something missing from his tone. When I closed my eyes at the Dennis DeYoung concert, however, I heard those harmonies and was transported back to the 80s. That was enough to prove to me that Dennis was the heart of the band. Well, that and the fact that he either wrote, co-wrote, or produced (sometimes all three) EVERY single one of their hits before he was kicked out of the band HE created with the Panozzo brothers.
@jessicaguerrero31892 жыл бұрын

The Panozzo Brothers, Dennis DeYoung,James Young, Tommy Shaw, that's who " The Heart of the Band is" sorry to disagree, Styx 2021 and Dennis and his band both lack something without the other. It is Hateful and kind of ignorant to say that any one of them was "the heart" Because it should be be obvious to the casual observer that all were pouring heart and soul into this unique and prolific band up until a certain point of commercial success. Only Dennis seemed to feel that concept albums and commercial success was the future of the Band. Who doesn't love tons of money right? I'll tell you who, REAL ARTIST who actually care more about the art than the money. I Love and respect Dennis to this day. What a horrible thing THEY made us choose. Lesson: Trying to boss everyone around and not letting other artist be/express themselves is a dead end road. ....... Look at our brother Dennis and say a Roger Waters, they missed out on growing old with the best friends they ever had. Bless you

gotta disagree here. DDY is not and was not the heart of the band. However, the current STYX is also missing something. STYX will never be the same as long as DDY and JY, TS and the panozzo brothers are reunited. sadly, I doubt egos will let that happen. the current styx rocks much harder and sounds better with the upbeat rock, while DDY does the light rock and other more melodic songs. No but in a very real way when Tommy joined the band in 1975, that is when they got good and started to resonate with the harder rock crowd.
