I`ve just started watching NYPD Blue from the start again, on season 4 now and after not watching it for many years I now totally appreciate just how good it was, Dennis Franz`s acting is stellar! To watch the character develop into what he was when it ended is a fascinating journey...

One of the better - and most enjoyable - interviews I’ve seen. I loved that Dennis said, of Vietnam: “... I’m not sure about course, but I’d like to see the country in peacetime. It’s an enchanting, beautiful country.” I was living in VN at the time of this interview, and I’m so pleased he said that. He’s a mensch.

The Heroes & Icons cable network (H&I) runs 4 episodes Mon-Fri starting at midnite. Using my DVR I've been able to record them all and then watch at my convenience with some great binge watching. I've been able to watch all 12 years of the show in 3 and a half months. Probably my favorite series of all time.

I don't think any character in television was ever as complex as the Andy Spiowitz character on NYPD Blue.

Even as a kid I was night owl, and I spent many a wee hour with Tom watching him have conversation with interesting people. I think he was a fantastic interviewer and had a infectious horse laugh, that always made me smile. Seems like his talents were underrated. My teenage eyes saw Tom as a really really old guy and the show’s set-up seemed kinda borning - Not exactly like Johnny…. But I more often than not found myself becoming engrossed in the show, getting a real-life take on the luminaries of the day. If you never saw it, I think you might like viewing some Snyder on KZbin - you’ll probably see what I mean.

Man lucky for you! I watched it starting in 94, second season and followed it loyally every week as it aired til the last episode. And I've watched it several times since then online. Sipowicz is in my Top 3 Favorite Characters Ever and Franz played him beautifully. Terrific cop show and great drama. When you get to the final couple of seasons, you'll notice that the nudity and profanity ramps up in order to compete with networks and shows like FX and The Shield and Rescue Me.

@@Euripides_Panz This interview with Dennis was very enjoyable. Tom Snyder was one of the best interviewers of all time. Strictly no comparison with the late night "comedians" now ruining late night tv.

Sounds to me the alcoholic caller was seeking justification for his fall-offs from the trials of a tv character. And he kind of got it, by proxy, from Dennis.
