So under rated. Bird said he was the best he ever played with. Their chemistry was magical. Dude hit a ton of clutch shots too.

When first seeing DJ play in Seattle as a rookie, you could see he was gonna be a great player, and we hearing he was gonna be a Celtic and Bird teammate, you knew championship rings were on the horizon.

The chemistry between DJ and Bird was a thing of beauty. Those “secret plays” they had would still be as effective today.

Those 'secret plays,' are probably part of the Boston Celtics playbook now because they work so well.

Great stuff, thanks for this! Love to watch DJ play basketball. With the Celtics he was past his peak (especially as an athlete), but he developed into such an intelligent, cerebral point-guard… he paced himself more, knew how to control the tempo of the game, knew where the ball should go, could really pass it and yet wasn’t hogging the rock… was still a great defensive player because he had the awareness, the smartness and fundamentals, had some really quick hands (to go along with a great wingspan); he wasn’t as fast as before but was stronger and had the footwork and IQ. Not to mention, he was very clutch throughout. And could still score at a nice level…

I’m surprised that you wrote a whole paragraph on DJ and didn’t mention Larry, but being a fan of your channel I’m not surprised. I glad you share your love of basketball by commenting on other channels.

I'm still angry at the NBA for refusing to consider DJ for HOF until after his death.

There were so many really good teams in the early to mid '80s and DJ was a big partnof what made those Celtics teams so great. Not only did DJ make Bird better, he was a great all-around player in this own right.

Notice at 2:11 when Parish has Laimbeer beat, Laimbeer’s natural reaction is to try to trip Parish. Unreal.

Yes. The honest defense of the “great” Bill Laimbeer. No wonder Chief pummeled him to the deck in ‘87 during the playoffs.

There is a video where Dee Brown is talking about how DJ taught him some tricks on how to play defense. He said DJ told him every player has a comfortable and uncomfortable dribble pattern. So, he would watch each of the players during the game and learn their patterns. He could then judge just when to "pick the ball off people". I think, but I may be wrong, that it was when a player was comfortable and not in defense mode, it was easier to take the ball away. Has anyone else heard about this? It is on KZbin. I think on the NBA history channel with Michael Cooper. So when Larry Bird said they thought alike, I wonder if it had something to do with how they saw patterns in their minds.

Dennis Johnson was the toughest player on every team he played for until he came to Boston. I am not saying that anyone on the Celtics was tougher but they would have all put up a good fight. DJ set the table, defended and shot better in the 4th quarter like all the real winners at the pro level.

Im so tired of Dennis Johnson he was never that good at all! Very slow ,not really a good shooter litte jump shots somtimes, not a good rebounder , not a goid defender! Any releancet he had was because Larry took him under his wing! Same goes for Parish! If Bird had a Stockton zand a Ewing he woul have had about 6-8 championships!
@AaronStark19932 ай бұрын
You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Bird called DJ his greatest teammate and Magic said he was the toughest defender he ever faced. I'll gladly take their opinions over yours.
