Dennis Potter's "Pennies from Heaven" is a true masterpiece. Bob Hoskins, what can you say, simply brilliant along with Gemma & Cheryl who reminded me so much of Marilyn Monroe in the last two episodes. What more can you say about the brilliance of Potter who left this world far too early.

@Johnny Collini......Totally agree! If you haven't already seen it - you should check out Potter's 'The Singing Detective'. Absolutely sublime!

I'm reading a biography of Dennis Potter, and I now understand how brilliant he was with this. He's always been a hero of mine, based on "Blue Remembered Hills" and his interview with Melvyn Bragg. before he died. Now, as someone in her 70s, I am really "getting it."

41 year old here from Norway. I can feel the romaticicm, and the lack of it. Dennis Potter is a genius.

I miss so much Bob Hoskins, he was such a brilliant actor. What a bore the wife is in this 1st episode. I have a sharp memory of really being engaged in watching this series when in the 1970´s or latest at the beginning of 1980´s it was shown in TV in my native country in Northern Europe. Of course, I hardly understood the essence of the series, but I was utterly captivated by the acting of Bob Hoskins, Cheryl Campbell, Emma Craven and other great actors and actresses, and by the general plot on the level a child can follow. Now, at a mature age, I want to get this series on CD. Little did I know at the time that my life would take me to UK: I am back in my native country, unfortunately, I have always felt an outsider in this country. It certainly is really puzzling how I have early on been very drawn to the British culture, instinctively. I had no such influence in my early or even later surroundings. At the time, there was no internet, mobile phones or similar devices. In my country´s TV there were only two channels. Now, it does not matter, but someone who believes in previous lives, would definitely think I have been English in recent past lifetimes. Now, starting to watch the glorious British acting, directing, script writing and music of the 1970´s. By now, 2024, it´s all changed, no quality.

I'm sure that Potter must have read Orwell's Coming up for Air. OK, the plot is different, but the theme of the unhappy travelling salesman, ex-serviceman, stuck in a joyless, sexless marriage and wanting to get away is the same.

Why can I not see episode 6 in my country (Sweden)? I have already seen the first 5 episodes, but nr 6 is impossible. Why? I think this is unfair! And very annoying, when you already have been watching all the way to the fifth episode. And then miss the final... Why not upload nr 6 just the same way as all the rest??
