Fun fact! One of Barnes's artist friends had a daughter who gave Albert some pictures to hang up in his gallery, and there are two pictures by a nine year old child hanging inside ensembles that also contained the impressionist masters.

I absolutely love this museum. I remember going to it growing up in the old house and seeing huge chunks of Egyptian hieroglyphics stones being used as doorstops. Some of my greatest memories come from this museum, and I really truly wish that everyone can experience it and enjoy it as much as I did and still do.

Great video as always Dennis. people should watch the documentary on KZbin about the politics of this museum's move to its new location downtown. It's named for a doctor Barnes who assembled the collection and left a will about how the collection should be displayed. the city essentially took the art, violated the will and moved it all downtown to create a tourist attraction. The art is much more accessible now to the public, but it was the man's personal property and he left a will as to how it should be handled.

Yes, it was a very controversial situation, splitting the Board of Directors and dragged out in court for a decade. I'm glad it worked out to enable more people to easily see the collection, and most importantly, everything is still arranged exactly as Dr. Barnes wanted it. Being in Center City makes it very accessible. Previously only 25,000 people each year could view it, but now it can handle millions. This is such a precious collection it needs to be available for the masses.

@@denniscallan 95 percent of me agrees with you, the other 5 percent of me says a will should be ironclad and they (the city's mayor and the administration) broke it because of greed. They were his paintings and he dictated how he wanted them to be handled and displayed.

@@GIRLRAZR I think you're confused, they don't need visitors to "stay in business" they have a multi-million dollar endowment which funds their operations in perpetuity. You need to read more about it, their problem was too many visitors.

At 1:50 narrator misspoke, estimating current value of the collection at only 25 million? Some works individually could fetch more than that
