Good job Dennis , very envious of the lovely weather you have out there now

I am so fortunate that I have the opportunity to live here. I’m so much happier with this weather than those long Michigan winters.

Great painting and I like the new hat t'boot. Gives me inspiration to get out and paint too! Thanks for sharing Dennis. Stay well.

Thank you G! I found the hat while in Montana recently. I never thought I would own a Stetson but this one suited me. You get some nice washes with those water soluble oils in your work.

Sorry, Dennis, I think you missed it. The composition at about 1 minute in was the one, sort of reminiscent of a Payne, Puthuff or Carlson. I've been re-reading, for the umteenth time, the composition books by Edgar Payne and John Carlson. Like the Bible, never get through reading them. They are so detailed and chock full of information on good compositions. The big tree with shadow and the light area beyond, sort of Barbazon-ish, dark foreground with light beyond as a focal point. Not sure why you choose what you did but it has no focal point and is a disjointed collection of things (rock, tree, mountain, with bad values and no play of light and shadow which the big tree, its shadow and the light area beyond, would have provided. It's tough painting out there, I know, and sometimes you miss the obvious cuz it is Too obvious! That's ok, one "learns by losing" in plein air, or any paintings (I'm currently doing lots of lousy portraits!), we all do. Just "don't die with bad paintings in your studio". LOL. That's a quote from a workshop teacher I had in the 90's, in the Lake Tahoe area. He's T.M. Nicholas, a painter from the Rockport area, where Gruppe and Hibbard painted years ago. Look up the names of the those I've dropped if you don't know them; and re-read (monthly) Carlson and Payne books on composition for outdoor paintings, is my advice, to all here. Cheers!!

Very nice finish. May I ask what did you use for the initial sketch? Alizarin + Umber or a Cobalt Blue, or something else entirely?
@DennisTysonPleinAir4 жыл бұрын
Alizarin and Burnt Sienna
@phisquared61874 жыл бұрын
@@DennisTysonPleinAir Ah Ha ..., and that burnt sienna also dries fast. Good idea.

Do you find it more challenging to work on the smooth surface? I find it difficult at times at how the paint is flowing on the surface.
@DennisTysonPleinAir4 жыл бұрын
It’s just the opposite for me. I have a hard time with canvas. I work thin to thick and use more medium in the final layers. This ensures the paint comes off the brush without moving previous layers.

Dennis, I love your paintings but you really need to get a mike to wear. Sometimes when your turned away from the camera your volume fades off and it's really hard to hear you. Maybe a clip-on for your shirt, with a long cord. Anyway, I hope you and your wife stay safe. Keep painting!

George Dalton that is sometimes easier said than done , not sure what Dennis films with but a lot of cameras don’t accept mikes

I have been looking into a wireless one I can wear on my shirt. Audio is a bear sometimes! Thanks for following along anyway!

I have a Rode mike but it is really best when speaking directly to it. I’ll figure something out!
