Your Dad helmed the best era of Batman comics. I like a lot of what came before he arrived and some of what has come after, but his tenure as editor is what I think of when I think of Batman. He was the best editor in comics, or at least one of the best if you ask me. His batman was intense but compassionate. Brooding but human Light hearted but not overly silly.. His Batman was the balance I liked. I can appreciate going to either extreme if written well, but I prefer a serious yet human Batman.

chemaxino 110 I don’t think O’Neill had much say with DKR Miller had more creative freedom. As far as year one goes I think O’NEIL had more of a say. I’ve grown not to like millers work because I feel his work many times can be either sexist or racist sometimes a bad mixture of the two.

Batman certainly would have been a joke without Denny O'Neil, and neither would other materials like comics, cartoons, and films. What Batman and the entire comic book industry need these days is someone like Denny O'Neil. Aside from his work on Batman, he also had outstanding runs on Green Lantern and Iron Man. Episodes of BTAS directly adapted his work and even got him to co-write. Everywhere in modern comics, games and movies his influence is felt. RIP to the legend.

Thanks for the video. Denny O'Neil is definetely on the top 3 of the most important Batman writers in history. He deserves all this praise and more. And, as the title suggests, he is the father of the modern batman, of how we know the character now. I'm particularly happy that you included detective comics #405-406 as part of the Ra's Al Ghul Saga. They aren't the best comics he wrote, but i feel they are neccesary to understand and enjoy the storyline as how it was originally intended. However, DC continues to miss those issues onn the collected editions of the saga of Ra's Al Ghul.

Denny O'Neil is the one who saved Batman, without him, Batman would either just be a forgotten hero of the past and obscure, or just straight up not exist anymore. While honestly, Batman needs a break after getting overused nowadays, comics would not be the same without him. Back in the old days, he was just a goofy hero who wore an equally goofy suit. A caricature of his former self in 1939, a scary hero with a more menacing suit. Denny O'Neil changed all of that, sure, he was his 1939 self in the silver age, but eventually, he was his campy form again. Denny changed that for the better, nowadays when someone thinks of Batman, they think of a dark hero, wearing a menacing batsuit. Not a goofy hero wearing a similar, yet somehow goofier costume. Which would be like the best way to describe the Batman from the latter days of the golden age to almost the entire silver age. He is not a perfect writer and editor, but he was one of the greatest. He would be in the top 5. He will be missed.
