Another example is Earth's Mightiest Heroes - 2 wonderful seasons and then ruined when made to confirm to the then-new MCU.

I do think ToB gets unfairly maligned in isolation when that’s not how the story is meant to be read, it feeds into the larger theme of that Justice League run which was trust, people often take it as standalone and use it to justify ‘BatGod’

I get tired of peoples “Batman doesn’t kill” comments. They obviously don’t know the first iteration. If Batman should kill, it should be Joker after killing Jason Todd.

It's worth noting the editor stated that Batman doesn't kill with a gun, specifically. Not that he doesn't kill at all.

That's very true, it was bat's first time black, the completely black and embossed cover of 515 was my first view of it, and after a couple years of Mike Manley's art in crusade-knightsend going to this "wtf style bats" w/ Jones' art was too much of a clash of where batman was at narratively. It made Bruce look like a musclehead psychopath, I stopped following batman religiously with 515 and followed the new Azrael comic for a little bit, never went back to batman b/c of 515's art lol

This story line was what was on the comic rack when I first got into comics as a kid. I lucked out honestly because I grew to have a major disdain for Bruce. Bruce let's his ego over take in an altruistic way, John-Paul was thrown into this war of Gotham's escaped convict round up. A couple villains JP fought Bruce wouldn't have survived; the acid guy, being shot up, a couple others. It was inspiring to see JP had his issues but still fought on, evolved the bat to what it needed to be and saved Gotham. JP is Gotham's hero, Bruce is the criminals hero. I absolutely abhored the complete BS ending with JP removing the armor in the cave tunnel and had "night vision on" which blinds him when Bruce opened up a hatch or something and JP's like "welp,I guess you beat me Bruce I'm walking off now." So lame, but they knew Bruce earnestly couldn't best him for real. JP dealt with dumbass robin always giving him the stink eye, the system he was brainwashed with, the reality of filling the boots of batman, being alone [no friends, family around]. He completely manned up and excelled. The "French name for slaughterhouse I can't spell rn" villain fell to his own demise put there by his own actions and JP beat himself up not finding that last victim, but 'abatwaur' deserved to perish, like all the criminals who kill, then are arrested, then released or escape every week made Bruce batman a badguy to me after a little bit b/c he couldn't get over his own ego to eliminate the murderous threat, he'd just 'pause' the threat, then the citizens were harassed a few days later. Bruce batman was right morally but incorrect infinitely. Then I stopped reading batman shortly after and DC ended up "resetting" their whole line up anyway. Azrael comic line was cheeseball, but suddenly ended too b/c of dc's reset .

I appreciate that Schumacher was a fan of the comics unlike Burton. The Bruce Wayne elements were the best part of Batman Forever.

There's nothing like the Batman stories of the 40's and early 50's. There are good issues and stories over time but Batman stories of the 2000's don't work for me.

I had zero problems with comics in the 90s. X-Men Blue and Gold teams, Death of Superman, Knightfall, the creation of Malibu and Image, great memories.

Sometimes there is an excellence in simplicity, sometimes the story’s that are the most attention grabbing are obvious, it’s at times less about actually being surprised but seeing how it is set up, and the clues being put together successfully
