A party where half of them are tempted by a corrupting dark power and become extremely powerful minions of the BBEG and become twisted inversions of their normal selves is actually a really cool idea, especially if it's a long-running campaign where the party have deep bonds... If you know that's what you're getting into, actually treat the power as evil and work the story around it. It raises a ton of exploratory potential for your characters. "Would I agree to take this power?" "How does it corrupt me?" "Do I like it?" "If I return to normal, how would I reflect on how I acted while under the power's influence? Would I regret the things I did, or would I be fine with them, or perhaps disassociate with them because it wasn't 'my' actions?" etc. A major thing definitely needs to be that the group needs to all be on the same page about what they want the plot to BE. For an ambitious story arc like that it needs more levels of "necessary metagaming" than normal.

@@lavellelee5734 I had a long term game at a game store near where I lived that was like that. There were 6 guys who were DMs. They were paying money to the game store to host in the loft and it was great. They did a big ol 3 groups versus 3 rival groups thing, but we were told the game was going to cumulate in to a giant PVP game. Essentially, any magic item we got was the counter of something they got but was also able to be counter or was just to fill out the +3 gear set. It was a fun year of Fridays though I don't know which side won. We were mid final battle fighting in this massive grassy field with a bunch of scattered trees and rocks for cover. The last part of the battle didn't happen though as there was no last session, the 6 DMs didn't play after thanksgiving and the guys never came back around.

It's actually a pretty standard tactic for narcissists. an open-ended situation with no way for the victim to win. If he found something that was indeed a reason for them to be mad, they'd say "yep that's why we were right". If he didn't find anything, they'd say that he didn't look hard enough or claim that his lack of effort was yet another problem. . The only way to win is to refuse to play.

I think the rise of modern fascism needs to be taken a lot more seriously by a lot of people, but this just isn't a good example. In fascism creating and blaming an out group is a means to an end, an excuse to gather more power. It would be a good example if they used OP as an example of why they needed more admin powers to "protect" the group from toxicity like his, but they largely already had the power and were just bullying him for the fun of it, and especially afterwards them bullying random people was counterproductive for any political purpose.

As a player in a multiparty campaign, we were competing with two other parties, however that didn't make us enemies, more often than not we ended up joining forces. Next week we actually have a giant session to deal with the final boss. All three parties joining forces one last time

Nothing wrong with making your CHaRACTERS enemies. This game actually had a good plot set up. OP, Bravo, and Sierra being the OG main party trio and best friends, only for a romance between Bravo and Sierra to turn them against OP, eventually it escalates with them and other party members embracing dark power and becoming corrupt with OP and some noobish players competing with them for artifacts with the one having the most getting done god given reward, I’d been hoping Sierra would realize her mistakes before the end and repair friendships, but continue the plot ending with her character have a change of heart and realizing how she and her group were becoming the villains. But sadly it only got so much worse.

Technically there is a way or rather cause the Inevitable Explosion I had a person similar to Sarah she’d get off on seeing me mad until she did something that I laughed at she had a look of shock after that anytime she tried to push a button I laughed and laughed all while she got madder and madder until she exploded onto me claiming everything was my fault and hoping some really bad things happened. What did I do about halfway through her rant I leave the discord until she was done after she yelled so loud she went horse and even broke her glass table. I’ve gone through something pretty similar to op. Admins started power tripping, and I made the exact same mistake as op; I said something about it, and that lead to me getting instabanned overnight, and waddya know things fell apart within the month. Obviously there were more finer details, but that’s essentially the gist of it- it simply goes to show that it was over before it even began the moment a narcissist got into the ear of the creator of the server, the only thing you can do about it is “martyr” yourself and get out of dodge, because for whatever reason the moment one person goes down plenty of others follow. Moral of the story? It really is not worth fighting for an apple thats already rotten to the core, just toss it and move on

This story hits me personally, because...I was once in the same position as Bravo, forced to watch a group tear itself apart because of a manipulator facing off against an aggressively stubborn fool I was a new member of a long running group, and through everyone except me rage quitting and rejoining at various points, I ended up as the server administrator I never got over the newcomer status (both in the server and in my own mind), so I was always loath to take serious action, constantly forced to thread a web of relationship drama that had existed for years before I joined. And we ended up in a situation where we had 2 problem players One was a thorough bully, constantly harassing anyone when she didn't get her way, and whining if it looked like she was losing. The other was bullheaded and couldn't read a room to save his life. And they of course were constantly butting heads Problem was: the first was one of the oldest members of the group, and had one of the other oldest members wrapped around her pinkie. And so, there was a constant cycle of one saying something, the other disagreeing, both escalating, and the first screaming until everyone around got involved. Now the second wasn't well liked because he was a bit of an idiot and constantly stumbled across lines. But the first was malicious in forcing her will on everyone. If anyone disagreed, or simply held their ground long enough, she would use everyone else to make that person suffer Eventually, things came to a head, and I was forced to take action beyond just separating them. And because of the first's connections and manipulation, it was either act against the second, or see a mass exodus of the group Things...did not get better. She just found new people to pick on, and though I lasted a long while under her sights, eventually I ended up cutting ties and burning the bridge behind me. And I can't help but wonder...if I had bet on the other horse...could I have done better?

At first I wondered how Drake was gonna read this monster of a saga in only 20 minutes. Then I saw the actual length XD But yeah, I remember hearing Critcrab narrating the first part of this story and then going to look for it on Reddit, and holy shit, Sierra and Delta have got to be the absolute worst problem players/DMs/whatever I'd ever read about. I remember being genuinely angry for hours after finishing. Sierra is a clear example on how dangerous it can be to give your GF special treatment in DnD. And as for Delta, wanting to "debate" and shit on people for how "wrong" they are... we did it folks, we found Grunkalina's long lost twin sister! Watching ragequit and abruptly disappear after they tried (and spectacularly failed) to create Dollar Store Fate/stay night might not be the most satisfying ending, but at least the poor people who were bullied by them don't need to deal with their insanity anymore

Problem is, when things like this happen, it's too late anyway. If they had gotten rid of sierra and delta, you would have foxtrot and bravo upset anyway, and they would bring the entire thing down. One thing I've learnt from many groups is to walk away when it's time, or accept you will be pushed out. I got pushed out of a group recently due to calling out the bullying tactics of specific members. Funnily enough they started banning others who weren't as vocal as myself. And then putting notes up saying they would ban others. I pointed out how it had turned into a game. I'd never said anything rude, or aggressive, but they insulted me and others openly. And it was a game now. They know if they ban me I've won, which is why they hadn't done it. Apparently it took several meetings from the admins to finally pull the trigger. I mean wow, that much? I find it funny to think on and time and experience have taught me not to dwell on it. But it can be rough.

i will say that the smart thing that OP and his camp should've done was collectively take their balls and go start another server after sierra's campaign instead of trying to force her out. he would've been more successful. sierra ultimately destroyed any trust she would've had at that point and DM prime was so spineless that even if he broke up with her immediately following that she would've found a way to get back into his good graces a week or two later.

No matter how many times I listen to this epic saga of stupid proportions, it never ceases to amaze me how some people bully others out of some reasons so petty that it makes most people wonder if they have life outside of the little pretend kingdom they try to usurp, honestly the players who jumped the ship early, got the best end of the deal, as dying on a hill made of stupid does not worth it, kudos for the OP being stubborn bastard, but they spend way too many nerve cells on this BS.

Fuck me sideways. That hit too close to home for me. Basically, a guy I knew as a friend got pissy that I wouldn't let his character do what he wanted in a story we were brainstorming together, took it personally, left, and then came back later to rake me across the coals for something unrelated, dragged my personal issues into it, and then left again. I was left in shambles for a while.

It's stuff like this that makes me look back at many horror stories of our group and think "You know what, it's wasn't SO bad". And we are playing a complete homebrew of nonsensical world coupled with nonsensical barely working diceless rules that allow whoever the GM is A LOT of opportunities to screw people over, and allow PCs to steamroll through almost every encounter. Incredible how basic human decency can keep a group like ours together for almost 7 years, despite all the shit that tends to happen.

Idk, Op said there wasn't a happy ending but it seemed like everyone got what they deserved. He left and got to play with the people who liked him, Foxtrot and Bravo paid the price for simpage, and Sierra and Delta's group became a festering wound and slowly died. It would have been nice to eject them earlier but Sierra won the moment she became site admin imo.

As for the first part, it's really a shame how the DM was handling things so poorly both in and out of the game. Because honestly the concept of taking a character you've played as for a long time and reimagining them as a supervillain version in a campy grimdark campaign sounds incredibly fun if run properly (and as long as everyone agrees on whether it's supposed to be part of the longer "canon" or not). To be fair, "Fate crossed with Bleach" might also be an accurate elevator pitch to the urban fantasy novel I'm currently writing...

Unfortunately I can absolutely believe these people are real. I've seen how toxic gaming groups can get, especially when they're built on preexisting relationships and everyone is bringing their own baggage into the game. And if a toxic personality manages to get into a position of authority or status in the group, it's easy for the whole thing to fall apart, with lingering issues that might have spent years below the surface being wrenched into the open for all to see.

The fact that the protagonist of the story is the literal chad space marine holding their own against an entire cast of villains and protecting the sanctity of a decades long campaign, and the main antagonist is a catgirl named Katana using her gf status to manipulate everyone like some shadow master makes the whole thing seem like a parody of D&D horror stories. Not saying I have any reason to believe the OP made it all up, buuuut I also dont have any reason to believe it isn't the equivalent of "I had an AI scan through all of r/rpghorrorstories and then generate its own"

I can believe it. I’ve seen things similiar, and have seen groups end up like that. It’s insane. People in that server have a sunk cost falacy mentality, and we’re unfortionatly victims of what can be called manipulation. I’ve seen it in MMO guilds, d&d groups one of which I was in that ended on a discord server.

As horrendous as the antagonists were, I don't think OP is totally blameless for some of his persecution by other members of the group. I get the impression he's sharpened the point of the transgressions against him whilst sanding off the edge of his own, in the telling of this story. Which is often the case in RPG horror stories. As someone with an abrasive personality, I'm guessing OP might just as well.

the symbolism of the bone blade in this story is really something unintentionally beautiful. a blade that was granted as a symbol that godmoding isn't allowed, reforging itself through space, time, and canon AS A DEFENSE AGAINST GODMODING
