A fairly new Denon AVR-S700W brought in with the complaint of low audio in the surround right and front right channels. I did all I could to save it, it started working perfectly as soon as i removed one screw in the right hand rear of the unit. I used Deoxit D5 on the connector that connects the digital process board to the analog amplifire board. I also tightened all of the current carrying ground screws. I sent it back to the custimre and havent heard anything for a couple of weeks.

I came here again just to thank you for your help. As I said, I have a Denon AVR-X1100w very similar to the AVR-700W. The SR channel was almost inaudible. Following your instructions, everything worked perfectly again. God bless you my friend.

Thank you so much for this, this is exactly what I needed to fix my AVR-S2720W! Thankfully this was after I was able to convince my wife we needed a new AVR for our theater space, but now I have two systems in my house 😂

Tks for the video. I have a denon 1909 with exactly the same problem. My FR tower isn't working. Output from it is just 10%. When I contacted the seller, even without looking at the system, they said a chip is blown and it's not available as it's a old model. Now I have some confidence to disassemble and reassemble and take a try. Tks again.

@NorCal715 - Yes sir. Grounds - Grounds - Grounds check them on everything. Cars, trucks, machines, electronics, etc.... I'm so glad that you recorded this repair. I own an older Denon receiver and this issue might come up for me also. Since thousands of new AV units have been sold this year we may be in for a boat load of repairs soon.

@@richardbicker640 Yes, this pandemic has caused families to spend much more time at home so the increase of in-home entertainment products has been seen. Even the RV market has seen a spike in sales this year. The Craigslist increase in sales is likely two things: old equipment sold to make room for new or people bought new and can't afford the bills now. I just wish I had the $$ to buy the bargains and sell with an installation service. As you likely know these AV systems are a bitch to get right.

You won't believe what happened to me! I was looking for a tutorial like this (awesome by the way), because my FR channel and SL channel had too low volume and sometimes the FR was not heard at all, I did the volume knob trick and sometimes it worked, and I said this thing it's gone, well I decided to clean under my speakers, desk etc relocating speaker cables and guess what, I realized that the fault was that the cables to the speakers were next to my UPS 🤦‍♂... 😹

Hi NorCal. Nice video as always, I am the guy who contacted you sometime back regarding the Yamaha RX V-685 display issue. Anyhow, recently I sorta hit the jackpot when I came across a Sony TC-K909ES cassette deck for sale from a local guy. Mind you this is the ES series and comes with 3 heads, dual capstans closed-loop direct drive and the wood panels and all the bells and whistles. I see this particular unit still goes for over $800 bucks on ebay and I got it for $120 bucks. Did not get the remote with it but hey, not the end of the world. However, I have a problem, I cleaned everything, all the tape paths, the heads, the pinch rollers you name it. I recorded 3Khz sine wave and play back its spot on thanx to the quartz locked direct drive. However, I did some recordings, and at the end of the tape, not at the beginning or the middle, but the end of the tape, I heard alot of wow and flutter. Hence, i recorded the sine wave and checked it, the readings are all over the place. I did everything i could think of, i even changed the belt, changed the take up pinch roller, then i saw on the direct drive motor there are 2 10uf 16V SMD's, i changed that to electrolytes caps. Nothing seems to get the annoying W&F fixed, the only thing i did not change is the supply pinch roller because its pretty tight as it is a metal cast and i cannot get the pin out. I didn't want to push it as i might bend it. Can you share some thoughts what could be the problem? I know worn out pinch rollers can cause the same thing, I have another deck Sony TC-WR770 the take up pinch roller fits perfect from that. Still the same issue. Please share your insides on this. Thank you so much. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

See if you can check if the motor is actually speeding up and slowing down. Maybe with a strobescope or by putting g an ink mark on the pulley and looking at at it with a 60hz light.

@@norcal715 Hi NorCal, actually the problem is now solved, after sending you the message I was messing around with the unit, i noticed that during the play or record mode, the take up pinch roller can easily be stopped by my finger. So i removed it (the rubber is fine, no shiny parts and still supple) and i bent the spring attached to it to give it more pressure when engaged. Then i tried it with the finger, it has more torque before coming to a stop. Then i did my sine wave recording, Yay the speed is constant as the sun shine on a warm sunny day. I didn't have time to fully put the unit back together and do thorough checking since I had to come to work in the morning. Can't wait to go home and put it to test again. So all it was just a stupid spring that needed attention. Thanx alot for coming back to me bud. Take care and keep those amazing videos of yours coming. Good luck and stay safe.

@@norcal715 Small issue i neglected to mention, this is what i had since i bought it, during recording it records like a dream when you play it on another deck. However, whenever i play it from the K909, the same tape or any other pre-recorded tapes, the treble is less. I don't think its the azimuth since i can clearly hear the high frequencies as the azimuth is spot on, but its like if you had turned the treble all the way down, it sounds like that. Heads look amazing, i have a doubt it is circuit related. Any thoughts on this? I thought of changing the all the electrolyte caps on the unit. I see some caps are branded Elna. Can you please guide me on the right path what could be the issue? Your thoughts on this is highly appreciated.

My Denon AVR-X2000 has this issue. MY FR and my Center channels would randomly stop working or have very quiet volume. It would seem to "fix" itself whenever I pushed on the speaker jacks. I'll have to try your fix and see if it works.

This I found extremely interesting. I have avr 1713. Twice on warm restart the right front failed . Sound was faint crackle that seemed to mimic input signal. Shut off let cool and comes good. Very similar to my air con duct controller. They diagnosed transformer. Plugged in new and all good. Later I tested transformer with its rated current output , nothing wrong with it. So I might try the spray. From what I've seen on the net it appears to be a common issue.

I have repaired stuff in the past that used the mounting for its ground connections. When I would remove a circuit board to service it I would have to run jumper wires connecting all of the ground together in order to troubleshoot it while it was a part. I would always ask myself why would anybody design something that way. It was just another reason for me to wonder why I got into the repair business. I would also have to explain to the customer why it cost so much to fix.

Hello. Your videos are great and very instructional. I have a Denon AVR model that has a cold solder joint on one of the speaker terminals. I opened the the lid and it looked like a ridiculous amount of work to get to the bottom of the board and re-flow some solder. When you wiggle he speaker terminals, the sound comes in and out. Is it as much work as it looks to be to get to the bottom of the board? I can't believe there is no access from the bottom of the unit. Thanks. Again, your videos are great.

One thing that sounds suspicious is you said you took a back screw out and the audio came right back. Was something in a stress with that screw or a pinched wire, etc.?

Try heating and cooling various parts to see if something is heat dependent. Use a can of air turned upside down to act as freeze spray.

I'm having a low subwoofer output problem with a Yamaha RX-A3080. Everything was cherry a few days ago but now my subwoofer is operating at about 10 to 15 percent of its capability (Velodyne Digital Drive 15). I brought in another sub to verify the issue wasn't the amp on the velodyne and the same issue occurred (swapped around RCA cables & did a factory reset as well). I tried the second subwoofer output on the receiver and it does the exact same thing. It's like the receiver output level has been skewed -20dB or more. Do you think it could be something similar to this Denon? Your channel is very informative, any help would be greatly appreciated.
