Try on speakers/Bass :subwoofer mode to LFE at 120Hz. The LFE+Main is like double bass. When I would play cd music in stereo mode it was just too much bass. I switched it and it was a huge improvement. Im running 11.2.2 Denon AVRX-6200W, Klipsch speakers, SVS(subs). Keep making videos, everyone learns something.

I have 11.1 currently running on my Denon AVR 6400H, using Definitive Technology speakers with 5 subwoofers built in my speakers, plus one dedicated stand alone subwoofer (6 subs total). The receiver is running on it's own built in amps (no separated amp). The receiver sounds great, without distortions at high volume.

Chopper G I heard the 9020 and they also sound great. My only issue is it does not have a tweeter on the back so I was looking at the 9040. I heard the difference in the store but do you think I will hear a difference at home? I want to make sure I make a good decision because I feel bad returning stuff.

I have the 9020 with Atmos speakers (A90) attached, and I used them for my back surrounds in my 11.1 setup. They sound great. If you want to use the 9040s as your mains, then I recommend the them. But if you want room filling sound, then I would get the 9060 with the SuperCube subwoofer.

Have you ever had the problem with the 4400h where you just can't open the setup menu anymore? Either hitting the setup button on the remote or on the unit itself, it just does nothing. No text on the LCD on the unit, nor on the screen. Nothing happens, and it's driving me nuts.

I like to use auro 3d for almost anything. When a movie that is native atmos or dtsx the reciever will choose that codec for me. All of them are great

I got a used 4400 last week, I wanted to run a 5.1.4 front Atmos (upfireing) and rear heights but there was no 9.1 Amp assign option for my setup, front height only, I then set Amp assign to 11.1 and there was an option for my setup which is weird cos I'm running 9.1 no external Amp, I think it's working, but still testing.

Thanks for the extra details on the setup. I got to read up on the crossover stuff, as I seem to have the same problem that Youthman reported with low vocals after Audyssey mic calibration. If I raise the volume, than the sound effects get too loud.

Great video, I used a sound meter I bought from Amazon and when I adjusted the volumes to each speaker it was amazing. It does a much better job then audessey. I'm so glad I did that it really brought everything alive.

Thanks for the detailed setup video. I have a question about 11.2 setup (7.2.4). Is it possible to use on the x4400h, all 9 channels plus both subwoofers outs and add stero amplifier to add two more height speakers. In the manual which came with it, i only see 11.1 mentioned and not 11.2. If its possible, can you please recommend a good but not too expensive stero amplifier for this.

you can do 11.2 11.4 11.6 if you want. The subs can be daisy chained together. so you can hook up as many you want. But yes you can do 11.2 direct from the back panel.

Try out music in Dolby surround with the Center Spread on, it makes a world of difference. I was strictly two channel before but this is a very good sounding alternative...got that tip from Gene of Audioholics. The other great option for music I heard from others, although I currently don't have is Auro 3d.

My avr is a denon x2000 and i have hooked up a 5.1 speakers rated at 6ohms. Now, i have just been given a set of bookshelf rated at 8ohms. I'm planning to add it to the receiver and make it 7.1 but assigned to front height speakers so that i can play Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Would the mismatched 6 vs 8 ohms speaker create a problem for the denon. Don't want to destroy the receiver if it is the case. I probably just assign the extra speakers to zone 2 listening then. yes. If you have Neural x or Auro 3d it will convert and content to all the speakers. I have a 11 channel right now and i use auro for everything. I plan on adding the VOG next month so it will be a 7.2.5 setup

The lpf for lfe at 120 Hz has nothing to do with crossovers. It is just a potential limiter for what frequencies of the LFE channel of a bluray (which is mixed up to 120Hz) shall be reproduced. So you would hard cut what you get if you turned that down. The only meaningful use case would be steering the output for a butkicker.

In this case it DOES have to do with crossovers, because he set his bass management to 'LFE+ Main'. So the cutoff controls not only the LFE channel content but also all the low frequency content from the other channels, as these speakers are all set to 'Small'.

set the AVR to do you cross over. turn the crossover knob all the way to the highest setting like 150. This bypasses the crossover on the sub and let you use the pre-selected crossover you set on the avr.

Hey man! One thing I can't find a lot of info on is Surround Height. The Denon gives this as an option, but seems more for Aero 3d not for Dolby Atmos. I can't find anything with Dolby that shows Surround Height as an option. Does this mean if you use Surround Height the denon will do some sort of upmixing?

When I set up my 6700h denon my rear hights displayed that it works for atmos and aureo 3d and dts. So that should work for you as well. When your at the display for amp assign, check at the bottom when the display of the rear hights are used, it should tell you what formats it will work for. You probably figured all this out by now, but just in case.

Uhm, just a note about "Distance". Too many people are confused over this. The "distance" that is measured on any AVR corresponds to the delay of the sound reaching the MLP. It is NOT the literal distance between the speaker and your MLP. Because your speaker is inside a room, there are reflections and for the subwoofer's case, it has a DSP which the receiver would add delay to compensate. So unless the distance looks really wrong (i.e your center speaker being 20ft away when your L/R are only 8ft), I recommend NOT to touch the distance after calibration. Once again, Distance in the AVR is NOT literally Distance from your MLP to the speakers. It is the DELAY of the sound travelling from the speakers to your MLP.

Hi THTD I use the the centre spread for listening to music occasionally manly internet radio, sounds great instead of too much sound from the centre more like stereo sound but with surround and will only work with Dolby. I have my front L & R (RP-260F) set to big speaker and the bass set to Main & LFE so you can still set the crossover which I have mine set at 80hz, so when I want to listen to some good music I use the direct mode then I go to the Bass function change it from Main & LFE to just LFE what happens then is the front L & R speakers are operating in full band just the way I like it sometimes natural as possible, being a Kiwi and all ha. FYI at present I'm running a Marantz Sr5012, Emotiva A-5175, Klipsch Front 2x RP-260F, Centre RP-250C, Surround 2x R-26F & Speakercraft 2x SLS Two for my top fronts. Great stuff THTD like your rawness just like a typical Kiwi Bloke.

Hey, thanks for the informative video, I may be misunderstanding one thing though, if I were to set my crossovers for my front Dolby Atmos speakers (bounce of ceiling kind) at 150Hz and my LFE crossover at 120Hz (the manual says its response is 27-150hz), would that mean that any sound sent to my Atmos speakers between the 120 and 150hz range would be lost and go nowhere?

if you're doing an 11 channel with this receiver, you need to power 2 channels. Can you use a stereo amp and connect it to the left and rifght pre-ouyts and then reassign the power in the Denon for these channels to other speakers?

thats exactly right! it gives you the option to pick either the front speakers or the rear heights. I would recommend using a higher powered stereo amp and use it for the front speakers and use the internal amps for the rear heights.

Once you have all your settings, have you been able to get the Save & Load feature to work? I just received a 4400h and shortly after configuring my Network boards seems to have gone out so it's being replaced. I inserted a USB stick and selected the Save&Load and nothing seemed to happen. When I look in the USB drive here are no new directories or files.

On my second x4400H largely due to network issues. Have connected via. ethernet and after a while it drops and will not reconnect. It's been suggested I have a static IP at home but due to cost and other devices not having issue with DHCP will likely switch to Marantz, hoping they have a better network card.

Or should I be ok running just 3positions. 2) I kept hearing from audiohics a others that putting crossover 120hz for lfe and subwoofer plus main off. And of course all speaker covers at 80 "to start"? Or is that just because if I put the lower subwoofer wont be as active. But with sub+main on that won't matter? Am I right. Is it because you ran audessey sub at120hz on the back crossover dial of the subwoofer? My sub peaks at 150hz and mains go low to about 50hz thanks man

Yes run the 8 positions for your couch. I should have clarified in the video. I usually run my L and R channels on Large and do LFE + main. I changed it right before the video. I should have changed mine to lfe only to make it jive proper. So lfe +main if you run L&R on large and LFE only if you run your speakers at 80 or 60. The way you should set up your sub is set the knob to max so i think in your case it would be 150? then you use the crossover in the AVR set to 120 or 100 for your lfe. Thats the most accurate way to set it up. Does this help you? Let me know if you have anymore questions. Happy to help

LFE is a specific track designated for subwoofers. You definitely want to have LFE on and set the subwoofer crossover to 120 or max if necessary, or there may be a switch for LFE. If you don't use LFE then you miss out on all the low frequency effects (LFE) that the movie has in store for you. Crossovers are different, in that they are used to direct lower frequencies that your speakers can't handle well or at all to the sub(s). Crossovers also help free up more power from the AVR for the speakers to be able to play at higher levels. Lower bass frequencies demand much more power. This is why it's also a good idea to buy a powerful subwoofer. I wouldn't buy a sub with less than 300 watts continuous (RMS) for a smaller room and 500 watts RMS for a larger room. In larger rooms 2 subs is ideal if you can swing it.

you pick which pair of speakers you want externally driven fronts or rear heights. Other than that you dont need to select the other channels you wanna drive, just connect the preouts to the external amp

Very similar. They are sister companies that use alot of the same internal components. Some people say the marantz sounds warmer, but I dont see that.

Dr. Pepper I liked them when I had them they are a little bright because the horn Twitter but the movies sound amazing. They are really sensitive so you don’t need a lot a power. But it will depend on your sound taste.

Waiting for mine to show up, can the pre-out be set to any of the channels? I have a 5 channel amp and want to run 7.2.4. Can I run the front 3 and side surrounds thru the amp and then rear surrounds and 4 heights thru the AVR?

yes you can. just choose the front for externals when you initially set it up. connect all your external channels and then run audessey

Is it set to off on the speaker settings. U can always reset the receiver and try again if u haven't fixed this yet

Hi, My 4400h arrives tomorrow. DOing bit of pre-work for connections. I have a 11.1 speaker setup 7.1.4. I want to use all 11 speakers. The manual is a bit confusing. Goes like a 2 ch. ext. power amp needs to be used to drive either Height 1 or Height 2 speakers. I think that's a waste of a power amp. I have a Rotel 2 ch. RB-1070 Can i ses the pre-out only for my Front speakers and connect them to the Rotel power amp? And then connect all other channels to the Denon? Will i get a 11.1 signal? My other question is on inputs. There is a "HDMI 2-DVD" and a "Coax Digital Audio 2 DVD". I understand in input assign i can change the default input and I will use the "Coax 2 DVD" to connect my Logitech Squeezebox to it. Question is, will the "HDMI 2" still be available to me for connecting for example to my 2nd DVD Player. And can i then access that form the "Inputs" button on the remote? I called Denon on both of these questions. On the 1st one, he kept saying to use the ext. amp with Height channels. I cannot use them with the Front. On the 2nd question, they were clueless. I'm coming to Denon from a Yamaha where the inputs are not confusing. Thank you for your help in answering my queries. I really enjoyed the video.

Bryan Pinto you can use external for rear heights or front left and right normal channel. You choose in the settings. I’d power the left and right. I’m not really sure what your asking for the second question.

Thanks for your reply on the 1st. That's a big relief. On the second, uut very simply, if i used the "Coax Digit 2" which says DVD on the back panel says "2 DVD", can i still use the "HDMI2 DVD"? Or can i use only one or the other?

im pretty sure its one or the other. If im right you can assign the digital in to whichever you need to. its not hard wired into the 2

Usually externals dont have volumes per say. They have gain controls. If you have an integrated amplifier then you can use that as an external amp. Whats the model number on the onkyo?

With this receiver you can only run 9 speakers with an extra amplifier. But you can still connect another pair but the receiver will only run 9 and will not play a pair depending how you running you speaker set up.

i was confused my man. The 4400 has 9 channels that are powered by the internal amplifiers. It has 11 channel processing though. you need a stereo amplifier to get that avr to play all 11 channels. that help? :)

So say i have all my speakers plugged into the receiver the whole 11 channels. when i go to watch something in atmos will it just decode 7.1.2 and when i watch something in auro 3d can it decode a 5.1.4 setup or will having all 11 channels plugged in confuse the receiver? All i really want to know is can i have a 7.1.4 set up and choose what heights or surrounds i want to play before playing content as i know all 11 channels cant play. Lol sorry if this sounds confusing.

Jamie Szwed yes you are right I have the 4200 and it has up to 11 channels but you can only run 7.1.2 or 5.1.4 using an extra amplifier. With Auro I don’t know I didn’t pay for it.

I dont understand? Why full when the subwoofer will do the 40Hz and below. I have my fronts at 80hz, the svs speaker dr? says I should have mine down to 60Hz. I think the lower the Hz you set make the receiver work harder. you know what I mean?

I have external amps so I dont worry about the amp working harder. The AVR stays nice a happy. I usually keep the fronts on full, i dont know why I changed it before the video. But yes you are right. If you have the fronts on full it will create more of a demand from your AVR. I keep the fronts on full because the tower can handle it. I Feel like putting the x over too high is choking the potential sounds I could be getting. Thats just DR SVS' logic. It may not be right but Thats the process

p.s maybe this is a very good way to go for bi-wired fronts. Set 100Hz on Hpf channels and fullrange on the Lpf channels. Would be nice i think next to a Lpf level+ adjust to give the front a little more oempff and you be proud

I desperately need help! My grandfather is 90 and can hardly hear so we set up a surround sound for him using a Denon receiver. I hooked up the cords and everything but my problem is that I don't know how to set the settings on the front of the receiver to the settings on our TV. Is there anyone that can help? We do not have an arc setup on the TV only on the receiver so I used a toslink audio output cord and an HDMI cable.

you can use hdmi from your source into the AVR and from the avr to the tv. or source to TV and then use the toslink into the AVR. either way works

This is still a very vague question. Run auto calibration with the included mic and then set your AVR to whichever input is the source

RUN & GUN I have the tripplite 20amp isobar. It does line conditioning and protects. Plus I run my avr and the rest off my old monster hts1600. Ferman is one of the ones I looked up originally. Great products!
