bought it thinking it would be better than my other 3 turntables ,1.audio technica ,2.pro - ject 2 digital 3 audio technica found the audio technica 120 sounded better and so did the pro- ject 11 digital both fitted with ortofon 2m red cartridge, but I guess I bought it for it being fully automatic.

The dp300f turntable is able to autodetect MM or MC with it internal equalizer ? Or is the choice set on the amplifier ? I have a 450, but my Yamaha preamplifier (a C40) is out of use since a couple of days.

There isn't one. Probably grounded through one of the (fixed) rca cables.

On the cartridge you you will find four connectors the LG and RG aren't sufficient for shielding. For proper shielding the ground terminal of your preamp should be connected directly to the chassis of your turntable. Never make the mistake to conncect directly the LG and RG to the ground teminal of your preamp or integrated amp with phono input this can result in a ground loop and can damage the output stage of your amplifier. So LG and RG of your cartridge should be fully seperated of the ground terminal. Proper shielding with cinch connectors is not possible these old and obselete connectors were developped in the 1940's by RCA for testing purposes and are not suitable for high end audio. Note that gold plated Cinch connectors are a waste of money the conduction is the same as "normal" connectors. The only reason that Cinch or RCA connectors are used is because they are very cheap. The DIN and Philips IEC connectors were a better choice.
