If there was a version of Densha de D with steam locomotives instead of EMUs, Takumi would be driving an JGR 8620 class steam locomotive, the Takahashi brothers with D51s. Team Emperor would use what would be the best and fastest steam locomotives, the C62. I would like to bet Shingo would use a JNR C11 tank locomotive lol

The real question is one of how you’d drift a steam train

For steam locomotives with a trailing and leading truck (I'll call them bogies for you), it is fine so they can multi-track drift like in Densha de D. As for the ones with only a leading or trailing bogie, or none, they should drift like Bunta's little engine, with the front of the rigid frame on the outside side grinding its flange with the inside rail.@@Hacksworth_Sidings
