Is the DOS of CB and VB is same for all the semiconductors ? If not then how can we calculate this for all the semiconductors e. g. TiO2.
@PhysicsStudyCircle7 жыл бұрын
alka samal , DOS is different for CB and VB as the effective mass of electron and hole are not same. The effective mass of electron and hole are different for different semiconductors. Effective mass depends on the internal forces in the lattice and is associated with the second derivative of energy wrt momentum space. So from the E-K diagram, we will be able to find the effective mass and then using effective mass, we can find density of states for a particular semiconductor. Thank you.

I have a question; why did you take only positive values of k? k could be negative, couldn't it?
@PhysicsStudyCircle7 жыл бұрын
I have considered one octant with all positive values of K. You can also take the negative values but in that case, you have to consider the volume of one quantum state is (2pi/a) cube and no need to divide by 8.

can you solve this question? Calculate the total number of energy states (in per volume cm up to 2 decimal point) in GaAs between Ec and Ec+kT. The electron effective mass is 0.067m_o (0.067x9.11E-31 kg), kT is 0.025 eV, h is 6.625E-34 Js.
