I suffer from dentinogenesis imperfecta..I’m 19 and my teeth have been breaking off as well. My dad and grandpa both had it... my dads teeth were completely broken off by the age of 30 and my grandpa had denchers by the time he was my age, 19. We have always lived paycheck to paycheck, and veneers aren’t covered under our dental insurance. I’ve kind of had to come to terms with the fact that I’m most likely never going to be able to get my teeth fixed.... it’s devastating.... I’m happy for my dad that he got his denchers. Just wish I could be able to smile without hiding it. It’s like since he doesn’t have to worry about his teeth anymore, that he forgot about what it’s like and forgot how much it affects me... idk... People don’t realize how big of an impact it makes for someone’s self esteem and mental health. As well as their physical health. It’s so hard.... being bullied relentlessly your entire life for something you can’t even help. And being judged by almost everyone you meet. The anxiety of smiling and meeting new people and trying to figure out how to address it. I’ve been called meth mouth and even had to switch schools because of it when I was in high school. And my third grade teacher blurted out and asked me in front of my entire class “do you brush your teeth?” And they ALL heard it because we were lined up getting ready to go to recess. I almost fist fought one boy who for YEARS bullied me relentlessly about it. I had to have 3 of my friends hold me back. That was in fourth grade. People are ruthless. People still ask me “why don’t you show your teeth? Are they really that f**ked up?” Al the time. I never get to actually smile. Its humiliating. It really does affect almost every aspect of your life....

Kaylee Thacker , I feel sorry about it. I wish I could help it. But I must say that life just isn’t caring about others opinions about you. We all are surrounded by these negativities at some point in our lives. Just take some space from all these negative people and thoughts and be thankful for the caring ones and the blessings in your life you have got. Stay happy and blessed :)

DentalManiaK um... not quite sure how to respond... honestly... I know life isn’t JUST caring about what people think, but you can’t say that what people think doesn’t affect someone. Especially when someone’s smile is often times the first thing people notice when meetings someone. The years of being in school and feeling alone because no one else had the same problem as me. I’m not bitter and dwelling on it non stop or focusing on what people think or say. Like I’ve dealt with it for 19 years, but it doesn’t make it any less hard. And yes everyone goes through hard times and everyone gets bullied at least once in their lives. But living with it everyday, and getting bullied every day for years. It got to the point that child protective devices was called because meth mouth rumors got so ridiculously bad and a teacher overheard and called it in. I had to switch schools. Not everyone experiences THAT kind of negativity. Not saying my problems are worse than anyone’s, but your comment seemed to kind of minimize and invalidate my experience and struggles. Idk

Your experience with your teeth sounds like mine. Although I don’t know anyone else in my family that has this disorder. I’m 25 and my teeth are small, translucent from very little enamel and I’ve had one pulled, a crown, root canals done all by the age of 22. I have veneers on the top 4 but it has made very little difference in my confidence. I get what you mean about how important our smiles are. It’s a depressing way to live live always being self - conscious of your smile and never smiling at all and being asked “why do you look sad all the time?” I wish there was an organization that helped people with this disorder to pay for dentures and dental implants.

You have said in video that shell teeth appearance is seen in type 3 while some standard books like shafer’s (oral pathology) says its seen in type 2 dentinogenesis imperfecta. Whats your say in this?
