Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos will have their eyes on potentially drafting a quarterback in the NFL draft, whether that be a trade up for Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy or drafting Michael Penix Jr. However, Bo Nix doesn't profile as a Sean Payton quarterback. NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger joins the DNVR Broncos Podcast to discuss why along with explaining how Brock Bowers would be an excellent draft pick for Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos.

@@user-zr4km5ns8tLynch was drafted at what 21st pick. It was a huge reach but taking Penix at 12 isn’t the same thing. Penix looks like a more than capable Qb and I’d be excited about that pick or trade back

@@akinwande0209Lynch was drafted 26th overall, & it was not a huge reach. Denver moved up only 5 spots in the draft from 31. Kansas City was interested at 27 also. Lynch didn't fail for lack of talent. He failed because John Elway pushed for him to start as a rookie, & they put more pressure on him than he was capable of handling since he had to essentially learn how to play in the NFL. Like most of these guys he cam out of a college spread offense that did not prepare him for the NFL. Guess what? So did all the first round guys except McCarthy. Ask yourself a question. If Penix plays only 4 years instead of 6 & graduates at Indiana, does he even get drafted? The answer is no. He got to play two extra years behind the college game's best offensive line surrounded by elite future NFL talent. So of course he put up big numbers, but he will still have to learn how to play in the NFL just like Lynch. If he goes to a team that expects him to start in his first year, he could suffer a similar fate.

Baldy said we could entertain moving back for center Jackson Powers Johnson or Graham Barton. The day this was published, the Broncos signed Center Sam Mustipher. We got our 5. Now we can start building out need positions.

Everyone wants to compare QB X to Drew Brees, but few people realize that Drew Brees was DEVELOPED by Sean Payton. When Payton signed Brees in 2006, nobody else in the NFL wanted him. Brees was not only coming off a down year, but he had had only one really impressive season out of five. He was also only 3 months removed from serious shoulder surgery & he himself would later say that he thought his NFL career was possibly over. Brees was a very average QB until Payton got him. In San Diego, they had already drafted Philip Rivers a year before he left to take his place. The problem with saying that Michael Penix is the next Drew Brees is that Penix has only done it under the most favorable conditions possible in which he was almost never even touched in the pocket, was surrounded by future NFL talent at the skill positions, & playing against PAC 12 defenses, most of which were not very good. Prior to that experience at Washington, he was far less impressive at Indiana & he had four years to try. IF Penix succeeds in the NFL, he will have to learn how to play in an NFL offense & read NFL defenses. That is going to take time. How much time? It took Brees 3 years & 27 starts before he STARTED to become a good NFL QB. When Payton signed Brees, he did so at the expense of drafting a rookie QB instead. He had the #2 pick in that draft, which meant he had his pick of any of the three who were considered blue chip prospects worthy of a top 10 pick. That is very likely what he will do in this draft also. Why? Because the guy he signed last year before he did anything else...Jarrett Stidham...is a close approximation of what Brees was in 2006 coming out of San Diego. Don't be surprised if Payton does not draft a first or even 2nd round QB in this draft. Even if he does, he will likely sit on the bench for a good while.

If we stick with Stidham, we will be the first pick in next year's draft. I personally don't want that, Penix has a very high ceiling. However, I would also be good with JJ if possible.

3 games by a combined 9 pts, is "whooping"? In those 3 games: Nix- 68.9 comp %, 855 pass yds 7 td passes, 1 INT. 139 rushing yds, 1 rush td. Penix 67.6 comp %, 1027 pass yds, 7 td's, 3 INT's, 1 rushing yard. So, with the rushing yards that Nix adds, his total offensive output was 33 yards less than Penix. HOWEVER, Nix was responsible for 1 more td, AND 2 less INT's. Personally i think that more than makes up for the 33 less yards. To call those games whoopings is simply wrong on the face of it, and thats without considering the fact that its a team game, and simply comparing qb's strictly by their head to head matchups entirely ignore the fact that other factors need to be considered.

@@MikegetsactivePatrick Mahomes went 0-2 vs Baker Mayfield in college. He also went 0-2 against Mason Rudolph in college...AND he went 0-2 vs Skyler Howard in college as well. In case you've never heard of Skyler Howard, he played Qb for West Virginia. According to your logic, though, each one of them should have been picked in the draft ahead of Patrick Mahomes, though....

@@andjohn7912 I'm a Husky. I watched Penix plenty. I love Penix. BUT Payton doesn't run an offense for a long ball qb. If Penix doesn't end up in the right system, he will suffer. Payton wasn't satisfied with Russell Wilson after he won 6 in a row. Payton runs a ball control offense. My opinion.

Russ is trash . He is a grade school style playing qb who never tried to learn how to play the Qb position the way it’s originally supposed to be played . Which is as a Qb learn how to read a defense learn how to recognize defenses before the snap learn how to look through all your receivers and then attack every part of the field. Know how to learn and digest whatever offense that coach wants you to run and not have to have the playbook dummed down for you because he lacks the ability to learn a true nfl quarterback offense

With a less than 50 percent chance that he'll even be in the league in four years🤮. Besides if we traded the farm we wouldn't get above the 3rd pick. I think we should build our team and take a QB late first or 2nd pick every other year till we hit on one.

@@bossoffoss Yes, those are statistics. However, Sean is a QB guru and missed out on drafting Pat Maholmes at the 11 spot when KC jumped to 10 from 23. This is why we brought Sean in, I promise they get it right at QB this year, whoever it is. 💯 Davis Webb and Sean are elite at this.
