we use a heavy duty 6 inch cantilever roller , the gate is made from Steel and can absolutely be a manual operation first and then automated later

All the weight is on the bottom rollers ? the top ones are only guiding the gate ?

Looks like when the gate is closed, the upper rear roller is now keeping down the back end of the cantilevered structure

Not quite, When the gate is closed it's going to have a lot of leverage with the weight, Most of the weight will actually be on the top rollers because naturally the gate will want to lift off the rollers when fully extended, And actually when open it will be the same because it will still be fully extended but the other way around, There will only be a small amount of time during opening/closing where the gate will hit a neutral point and rest on the bottom rollers, otherwise it will be trying to lift up and one bottom roller and the opposite corner top roller will be taking the majority of the weight, As the gate will try to lift off the farthest bottom roller being caught by the furthest top roller and held up by the closest bottom roller, If all the rollers are set at the right heights ideally the gate will have no room to move up and down at all to put extra stress on the rollers tho.

Have you ever done a cantilever with bypassing panels for when you don't have the room for such a long gate when it is open?

Great video. For an opening that is 16 feet, how long should the gate + counterbalance be? 18 feet? On a gate like the one you installed, could one install a gate to operate manually at first and then add an opening system afterwards? I am assuming the gate done in steel? Just curious, why not aluminum? Finally, I would love to see part 2. Thanks!

Peter Kriz @ 16' opening total gate length would be 1.5 x also you should put some trusses in the tail section to prevent pincushion effect.
