Traditions. If you see an unusual color scheme that isn't yellow, it was probably selected a long time ago I've never heard the "official" story, but from what I have heard, White was chosen for visibility as black was by a very large margin the most popular color for automobiles at the time. The gold stripes reflect the gold pinstriping seen on early trucks

@@hvymtal8566 also is a slightly, idk, biblical thing? Essentially white and gold are associated with angels, so it's saying that inside are angels of sorts (which totes fits how FFs are, they'll run into a literal nuclear fire if it means saving a life)

It just all depends on the department itself a lot of departments have where they have blue and red and then just red again it just depends on the agency and the state laws
