I think it’s mostly true, if not half true. Like any A-list actor, he does some big blockbuster action movies where culture or race doesn’t play a big role. Then again, he does films like Philadelphia, Training Day, Fences, Malcom X, Remember the Titans, Glory, The Hurricane, and several others where the culture is important to the story. I know some actors take the stance of “one for me, one for them.” He will do a popcorn movie to get the money, but then his next role may be an independent and very culturally relevant and he makes less money. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. He is willing to do the hard movies, and he’s not just reaching for box office success. He does get some of those( obviously) and they have nothing to do with race or culture. While he’s not my favorite actor of all time, he’s probably top 5 for me. Denzel keeps it real, and he doesn’t pretend to be or do something he’s not. Good man.
