The concept of the "nation" per se was a function of mercantile development in largely European lands, where establishing homogeneous language, culture, and faiths within boundaries facilitated capitalist trading relationships inhibited by the localized restrictions of feudal land organization. The concept has spread to colonized lands as they have resisted imperialism since it has been perceived to hold the vaunted promise of individual civil rights in representative democracies. The exclusive right of Palestinians to self-determination (to form a state) and the right of colonized indigenous people to resist occupation must be upheld throughout the ancient indigenous Palestinian homeland, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Perhaps descendants of the 10% of the inhabitants of Palestine who retained the Jewish faith over centuries and who owned 2% of the land in about 1900, before the Zionist influx, could be considered to have rights to land in Palestine. Even land purchased rather than blatantly stolen by Zionist settler-colonialists is Palestinian, given that misrepresentation and violent pressure by the British and Zionist authorities were factors in the sales. If Palestinians decide in the course of their struggle to share their land with former Israeli Jews, that is their right and those in global solidarity must respect that decision, just as we must defend the right of Palestinians to choose to demand the emigration of all Jews, although perhaps choosing to let stay those with pre-zionist roots. For an immediate and permanent end to ALL US funding, military collaboration, and other assistance to Israel! Full sanctions on Israel! Why now? two reasons. First, Netanyahu is under presure at home to deliver a victory. There are 100,000 displaced Israeli's that want to go home in but can't because of the Lebanon war. Second, weather. As fall/winter appraches, the number of sorties that the Israeli air force can fly deminishes. If they can't win now they might not win at all.

October 8th for Hezbollah as they started launching missiles at Israel. They have subsequently launched as many as 9000 missiles at Israel. October 27th was the beginning of the Israeli war with Hamas. Don't confuse Palestine with Hamas. Please don't confuse Hezbollah with Lebanon or their respective people.
