BUT…………Denzel himself informed Will Smith (which the advice may have come too late), Martin Lawrence and other budding actors to NEVER wear women’s clothing (a dress specifically) and to NEVER kiss a man in the mouth by any means. There are a number of problems I have with Hollywood's portrayals of Black men. I'll start by sharing something my wife, who is from Uganda said while we were watching a 70's show. We were laughing at the scene, and the costumes, so her response was: "Where are the red noses?" From this, I paused and thought about the costumes, and pictured these Black men in red noses. I had to conclude that they all looked like clowns, which is OK for comedy, except that these costumes were common place in the Black communities at the time. It's amazing the impact a production's costume department can have on Black communities. Then, there is the type of roles we find Black men portraying in action films. We can hardly find a Black man who hasn't been portrayed in handcuffs, in a jail cell, in a dress, a wig, perverted in speech, or "tilted." Ask yourself can we say the same about White male action actors. Clearly, Hollywood has reserved male dominance for White male actors. This particular role of a Black man in Roman society having a character bio of being "tilted," is misleading. This behavior was prevalent in Greco-Roman society, but not amongst Black men. The behavior was so perverse that it was characterized in Latin deities and carried over into the Roman Catholic church, which has harmed many youth to the present. We don't find this behavior in the northern African cultures as being celebrated, and would have to conclude that it is not an acceptable behavior in Africa. What I find disturbing about this interview is that Denzel Washington is standing with his wife next to him and the interviewer disrespects them by encouraging the behavior. She does not protest, and Denzel takes this to mean she is encouraging the behavior. He is not taking a lead role, this surprises me, as I took him to be a dominate strong Black male, and here he appears to be weak, and she is in charge. What if the question was asked: "Will you kiss a White woman?
