Kudos to Nelson Riddle who created that awesome arrangement to complement Franks amazing voice and Cole Porters amazing songwriting

In an hour, in the back seat of his car while his wife drove him to Capitol Studios because he was late getting the three songs ready for that night’s recording session. This take was the 22nd. The poor solo trombonist was exhausted and soaked in sweat by the end of it. Interestingly, Riddle did not arrange the solo. The trombonist was just told to ad lib.

“If you’re a fan of music you can’t not like Frank Sinatra”... damn right!

One of the great recordings--ever. Good to introduce it to a younger audience. Read somewhere that it took more than 20 takes to get that incredible trombone riff. Milt Bernhart was the guy with the trombone. Saw Sinatra perform in concert in Vancouver in 1985. Outstanding at age 70 then. I Finished high school in 1954 and we danced to his LPs then. Still can't figure why Riddle added so much drama to the song. But--hey!

jazz came from the bruthas of new orleans in the VERY early 1900's... it morphed into swing... then sax player charlie "bird" parker brought bebop into being... then miles came and brought "the birth of cool" jazz... frank understood this, as all intelligent musicians do. i'm a 58 year old white guy who plays jazz guitar and i know we owe it ALL to mr. louis armstrong, duke ellington, and count basie, just to name a few. sinatra just improved on it... as did sammy, dean, nat king cole, etc., etc. great video. this was even before my time, but i love it. as they used to say... "keep it swingin'!"
